Tottenham ready to make highly rated defender their 3rd signing of a busy window

Tottenham is said to have made early moves on a possible third player during the January transfer window.

As of this month, Ange Postecoglou has already hired Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin. The Lilywhites have had a lot of fitness problems so far this 2023–24 season.

Since Christian Romero and Micky van de Ven are still getting back to full health, Spurs are reportedly looking for another center-back.

Sky in Germany says that Tottenham has “put the feelers out” about a possible move for Ko Itakura, a defender for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Over the course of his time in Germany, the 26-year-old has played both defense and center for Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach. Itakura also played for Manchester City for three years, from 2019 to 2022, but he never played for Pep Guardiola’s team’s first team.

After going on loan to FC Groningen and Schalke twice, the defender made the move to Borussia Park official in the summer of 2022 and has continued to do well there.

Many teams were interested in the former Kawasaki Frontale rider during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Japan made it out of their group but lost to Croatia in the Round of 16.

Marca named Ikatura to their “Team of the Group Stage” for his play for Hajime Moriyasu’s team. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has long liked the center-back.

Recently healed from an ankle injury, the former City player has been in and out of action this season. However, Tottenham and Liverpool are both said to want to sign the back.

Postecoglou wanted Itakura when he was at Celtic, and a story from Sky in Germany says the center-back has a release clause of only £10–15 million that could be used this summer.
