Tottenham plot new Rico Browne swoop after Birmingham offer rejected

Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in signing 20-year-old Rico Browne after he rejected a new Birmingham City contract.

The young defender has previously been on trial with Spurs, and Football Insider revealed the club tried to sign him, only for Browne to reject the deal.

The centre-back also spent time on trial at West Ham United, but a move never materialised.

Now, Tottenham and Brighton have registered an official interest in signing the rising star

Tottenham previously tried to sign Browne but he rejected an 18-month contract offer from them, opting to sign a new deal at St Andrew’s.

Now, Browne’s future is up in the air again after Birmingham’s latest extension offer was knocked back by the player.

The central defender spent last season on loan at Rushall Olympic in the National League North.

Tottenham would gain a youthful defender

Browne featured 18 times for Rushall last season and started every game, managing one goal and an assist despite being a central defender.

However, the St Kitts and Nevis youth international has not registered a first-team appearance for Birmingham after making appearances for both the Under-21s and Under-18s at his club.

Spurs have already been busy in this transfer window, as the Premier League club confirmed the signing of former Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray yesterday.

The midfielder joined the club for a fee of £40million, with Joe Rodon going in the opposite direction.
