£120,000/wk Tottenham player could completely terminate his Spurs contract

One player in Ange Postecoglou’s squad might soon seek to terminate his contract with Tottenham, aiming for an early exit. As the club builds momentum after wins over Manchester City and Aston Villa, uncertainties arise for several players as the new year approaches. Notably, Spurs may see a few key names leave in 2025.

Among those with contracts expiring next summer are Sergio Reguilon, Ben Davies, Fraser Forster, and Alfie Whiteman. Unless Tottenham enters discussions for extensions, these players could depart on free transfers.

Reguilon, in particular, is drawing attention from La Liga, with clubs like Getafe eyeing him as a valuable acquisition without a transfer fee. The former Real Madrid player has yet to appear in a Premier League or Europa League game this season, even though he trains with the first team. It’s clear he’s not in Postecoglou’s immediate plans.

Ben Davies, in his eleventh year at Tottenham by the time his contract ends, may also move on after many seasons of loyalty and consistent performances.

His departure would mark the close of a lengthy chapter in Spurs’ defensive lineup. Son Heung-min’s contract is set to expire next year as well, but the club has the option to trigger a one-year extension, which they appear likely to do given Son’s critical role in Postecoglou’s squad. Losing the South Korean star would be a significant setback.

The club’s decision on Timo Werner, currently on a season-long loan, remains uncertain. While his loan includes an £8.5 million buy-out clause, recent performances may dissuade Tottenham from making his stay permanent.

Despite Werner’s impressive work rate, concerns about his finishing have sparked speculation that he could return to RB Leipzig once the season concludes.

Additionally, Spurs may look to loan out Archie Gray in January. Arriving from Leeds for a substantial fee in the summer, Gray has struggled to secure a consistent starting spot in the Premier League and has primarily featured in cup matches.

Postecoglou might consider a loan spell to aid Gray’s development and provide him with more playing opportunities.

Reports from Spanish outlet Fichero suggest that Reguilon may even look to end his Tottenham contract prematurely. Sevilla, Reguilon’s former club, reportedly views him as a potential replacement for left-back Valentin Barco, who may return to Brighton.

With Reguilon potentially filling this spot, he could be reunited with familiar surroundings and enjoy more consistent playtime under Garcia Pimienta’s management.

Currently earning around £120,000 per week in North London, according to the MEN, Reguilon’s wage could be seen as a drain on Tottenham’s budget, given his limited role in the squad.

Allowing him an early exit to Sevilla might benefit both the player and the club, relieving the wage bill and freeing up a slot in the team. The upcoming weeks will reveal whether this move materializes as the January transfer window approaches.
