Tottenham player out until mid-April after sustaining bad fracture in his foot – journalist

This week, news came out of Tottenham that one of Ange Postecoglou’s players had broken his foot, sidelining him until April.

Spurs inflicted injuries during 2023–2024

The sheer number of important players out for extended periods of time since the start of the season has been concerning for the Lilywhites.

Despite this, Postecoglou’s team is still in the lead to qualify for the Champions League ahead of Aston Villa, which is a credit to his work. Throughout this season, Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, Cristian Romero, Richarlison, Brennan Johnson, Giovani Lo Celso, Ashley Phillips, Ryan Sessegnon, and Rodrigo Bentancur have all missed at least a month of action due to injury. Following van de Ven’s removal against Villa last weekend, concerns have been raised about his availability.

Following their injuries against Chelsea shortly after November, Spurs were forced to deal without star combo Maddison and van de Ven for an extended period of time. Postecoglou was even had to use Emerson Royal and Ben Davies as a substitute center-back pairing at one point.

Sessegnon has yet another hamstring injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season, but sports scientist Dr. Rajpal Brar believes the left-back will bounce back stronger.

“Surely he still has a lot of time left? Even for more experienced athletes, it’s just one of those situations with repetitive injuries or muscle strains that may be quite difficult to overcome,” Brar said.

“There have undoubtedly been instances where other players entered the injury cycle and exited it. It’s not the end of the road for his career in any way.

“You have to hope for the best, as he has plenty of time and the key will be some methodical rehab followed by some good fortune.” In contrast to a younger player, who is likely hoping to return to the field and earn a new contract or something similar, he has more time to recover and is not under as much pressure to do so.

Updates on Sessegnon and Richarlison—who is also out with an injury but could return much sooner—have also surfaced. Fraser Forster is the backup custodian.

Forster’s foot fracture kept him out until mid-April

Journalist Wayne Veysey of Football Insider reports that Spurs keeper Forster would be out until mid-April due to a foot fracture that he suffered last month.

It looks that the Englishman, who is currently ranked second in the pecking order behind Guglielmo Vicario, will miss a further five weeks of work before he is available for selection in Postecoglou’s matchday squad.

Forster signed a contract with the Lilywhites through 2025 after joining on a free transfer from Southampton in 2022.
