Major twist sees Tottenham offered chance to sign world class striker for bargain fee

Tottenham has huge ideas for the summer transfer window, and one of Ange Postecoglou’s top goals is to get a new striker fit for his starting XI.

Under the Aussie coach, Spurs had a decent first season, impressing their fans with some great football; yet, they finally missed their aim of Champions League qualifying.

Apparently, Postecoglou thinks his squad should fight for prizes next season by bringing in a new centre-forward. He also wants to add a new centre-back, winger, and midfielder.

One player who has been on Tottenham’s for some time, however, is Ivan Toney from Brentford, and Postecoglou may be persuaded to sign him.

This is because the England international might supposedly be much, far less expensive than first projected this summer.

Having returned from suspension this season, Toney scored four goals for Brentford and will aim to be on target once again for England in the next Euros.

Brentford reduce Ivan Toney price tag
Football Insider claims that Tottenham might pay Toney a “surprise fee” of only £40m this summer; Brentford “reluctantly ready” to let him go.

This is a significant shift in posture since it was claimed the Bees were seeking £100m to let the 28-year-old go in January.

Toney’s contract expires in little more than 12 months, so Thomas Frank’s side has to part ways with him sooner rather than later to guarantee a reasonable return.

That said, it appears probable they will wait until after the Euros to sell Toney in case he has a barnstorming tournament and desire in his signature dramatically up.

Previously connected with the forward have been Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and West Ham.

Should Football Insider’s £40 million price tag rumour be accurate, teams will surely begin to queue to sign Toney.
