Tottenham now put 23yr old up for sale after manager fall out

Tottenham is reportedly considering a permanent sale of Djed Spence in January following the abrupt end of his Leeds loan, sources have informed Football Insider. The Lilywhites aim to generate funds for Ange Postecoglou’s squad reinforcements through Spence’s sale.

Spence’s shortened loan stint faced criticism from Leeds United’s manager, Daniel Farke, who emphasized the high standards for professionalism and discipline, irrespective of loan or permanent player status.

At Tottenham, uncertainty looms over Spence’s future, leading the club to seek a permanent sale, albeit without an expected full recoup of the fee initially paid to Middlesbrough during his 2021 summer transfer, which rose from £12.5m to £20m after a successful loan at Nottingham Forest.

Despite his promising loan spell, Spence struggled to make an impact at Tottenham post their relegation to the Championship. His subsequent brief stint at Leeds, marred by a ligament injury, saw minimal playing time and failed to leave a strong impression.

Tottenham’s defensive injury crisis hasn’t elevated Spence’s status within the club’s long-term plans, with Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, and Ivan Perisic currently sidelined.

The club anticipates an active January transfer window, continuing negotiations with Genoa’s Radu Dragusin and potentially parting ways with Eric Dier, who Bayern Munich is reportedly preparing an offer for after agreeing on personal terms, as per sources revealed by Football Insider.

Additionally, RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner is expected to join on a loan-to-buy deal, with a medical scheduled on Sunday, as understood by Football Insider’s sources.

Sitting fifth in the Premier League and recently securing a place in the FA Cup’s fourth round with a 1-0 victory against Burnley, Tottenham gears up for a challenging encounter against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
