Wages too much: Tottenham now unlikely to make move for brilliant £65M star despite interest

Many teams want to sign Dominic Solanke as a scorer after a good Premier League season, but he won’t be going to Spurs.

Bigger teams are interested in Solanke after he scored 19 goals in the league last year. Tottenham doesn’t want to pay £65M for the striker because they need to get other players.

Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, is looking to add new players ahead of the new Premier League season. He wants to make it to the Champions League after almost making it last year, but Manchester United star Dominic Solanke is not on their list of targets because the club can’t afford to pay his release clause.

Solanke has been in and out of the Premier League throughout his career. As a young player, he had frustrating stints at Chelsea and Liverpool, but he’s found a home at Bournemouth and scored 19 Premier League goals last season, which caught the attention of bigger clubs and earned him the praise of Thierry Henry, who called him “brilliant.”

Many top-flight teams, including Arsenal and Newcastle United, have been linked with Solanke for a number of months. Both teams are looking to add players before the season because they need more goalscorers and more strength in their squads.

It hasn’t been easy for Solanke to score goals in the Premier League—he only scored six in 2022–23—but that’s because Bournemouth has been improving under Andoni Iraola. He could score even more goals next season if he plays as the team’s center back.

Sources close to GIVEMESPORT say that Tottenham are not likely to activate Solanke’s £65 million release option right now, even though they need a striker.

They are thought to be one of the only teams that can trigger the clause in his Bournemouth deal. The scorer has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season, but he didn’t make England’s preliminary group for EURO 2024.

Next season, Tottenham will play in the Europa League, which could be seen as a big plus when it comes to signing players. They have been linked with Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez and Yousseff En-Nesyri.

Many teams have been interested in him because Tottenham needs a player to compete with Richarlison and Son Heung-min up front. However, Spurs fans think Solanke’s price is too high, so they haven’t made a move yet.

Tottenham does need to add players to their scoring areas, even though they did well after Harry Kane left last summer.

The Englishman moved to Bayern Munich and scored 44 goals in just 45 games in all competitions for the Bavarian team. He got 280 goals in 435 games for Tottenham, so everyone knows how good he is at getting goals.

According to GiveMeSport, Harry Kane scored 44 goals for Bayern, which was the most in his career.

Tottenham did a lot better than expected when he left, but they don’t have a true striker at the club. Richarlison and Timo Werner play as both strikers and wide forwards, and Son Heung-min isn’t strong enough to lead the line like Kane did.

Solanke would give them that in spades, but Tottenham may not want to spend a lot of money on him right now because they need to fill other roles first.
