Tottenham may have their future Cristian Romero replaced at the club with wonderful ace

Tottenham Hotspur have established themselves as a club that consistently scouts and acquires some of Europe’s top young talents. Even before Ange Postecoglou’s arrival, the club prioritized investing in promising young players across Europe.

One notable example is Destiny Udogie, who was signed from Udinese but remained in Italy on loan for a year before joining Spurs.

This approach has paid off, with Tottenham continuing to secure top young talent, most recently with signings like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, both of whom joined the club this year.

Additionally, Tottenham has placed a strong emphasis on promoting their own homegrown talent, with players like Mikey Moore receiving praise early in their careers.

Tottenham’s strategy of signing young players has led to the acquisition of a potential long-term replacement for Cristian Romero. Luka Vuskovic, a 17-year-old Croatian defender, was signed by Spurs last year and has since embarked on several loan moves across Europe to gain experience.

Vuskovic has not yet joined Tottenham due to needing to accumulate more GBE points to facilitate his move to England. However, during his loan spell at Belgian club KVC Westerlo, he has showcased his immense potential.

Vuskovic has made 10 appearances in Belgium’s top flight this season, where he has not only contributed defensively but also offensively, scoring four goals and registering one assist.

While Westerlo has only managed one clean sheet this season, Vuskovic’s performances have been consistently impressive, with the young defender playing almost every minute in all but one of their games.

Romero, Tottenham’s World Cup-winning center-back, has recently been linked with a move to Real Madrid. The Argentine, who has three years remaining on his Spurs contract, has enjoyed significant success with his national team, winning the World Cup and two Copa Americas.

However, questions have arisen regarding his long-term future at the club, as he has yet to win any silverware with Tottenham. Despite Romero’s strong performances over the years, there has been speculation that his future could lie elsewhere, especially as Tottenham looks to the future with younger talents like Vuskovic and Radu Dragusin waiting in the wings.

Standing at 1.93 meters, Vuskovic provides a notable advantage in height compared to Romero, who has struggled recently with aerial duels. In the North London Derby, Romero was beaten in the air by Gabriel Magalhaes, leading to the only goal of the game.

This highlights an area where Vuskovic could offer significant improvement to the Tottenham defense. When comparing the two players in several key metrics for the 2024/25 season, Vuskovic shows clear superiority in certain areas.

Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle has not been impressed with Romero’s performances this season, particularly following the team’s defeat to Brighton. While Tottenham fans have witnessed Romero’s quality since his arrival from Italy, it’s evident that the vice-captain has not been delivering at his usual high level in recent matches.

Despite his recent struggles, Romero remains a key player for Tottenham, but the emergence of talents like Vuskovic gives the club a promising future in defense.

In the coming years, Tottenham’s defense may see a shift, with the likes of Vuskovic and Dragusin potentially stepping up to fill the void if Romero chooses to move on.

Spurs have clearly invested wisely in their youth, and with these promising talents in their ranks, the club’s defensive future appears to be in good hands.
