Video footage emerging from Tottenham makes mockery of controversial £33M decision
The newest video footage from Tottenham shows that the idea to change one of English football’s oldest traditions is complete rubbish.
Spurs finished their season with a 3-0 victory against Sheffield United on Sunday, just five days after their 2-0 loss to Manchester City guaranteed their failure to qualify for the Champions League next season.
However, the dust had not yet settled on 2023-24 when the North London side flew to Melbourne, Australia later that day.
Spurs players were spotted boarding the aircraft ahead of Wednesday’s contentious friendly against Newcastle United, according to a video released on their Twitter account.
The clip not only raises worries among supporters about their players’ physical condition, but it also mocks a contentious decision made by Spurs and their Premier League counterparts in April.
Tottenham are hypocrites about their decision to abandon FA Cup replays.
When it was announced earlier this year that FA Cup replays will be eliminated after the first round in 2024-25, it sparked fury.
Daniel Levy and his Spurs boardroom colleagues are reported to have supported the decision, as has the rest of the Premier League.
Meanwhile, the EFL has stated that the decision was purely made by the FA and the Premier League, with no consultation with the lesser divisions.

The FA said that “up to £33m” in cash will be provided to grassroots as part of the reform, although this did nothing to appease clubs for whom replays may be a significant source of revenue.
Player tiredness in an overcrowded fixture schedule was unanimously recognised as the primary motivator for the decision.
However, this contradicts the reality that Spurs flew out to play a meaningless friendly 10,000 miles away only hours before the final whistle in 2023-24.
How much will Tottenham earn from the Australia friendly vs Newcastle United?
There is only one reason why two Premier League teams would travel halfway across the globe and risk losing their top players in a non-competitive game.
There have been no official financial numbers disclosed for the friendly at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, but Spurs are expected to earn over £10 million overall from their pre-season activities ahead of 2024-25.
This will involve a significant reduction in ticket sales at the 100,000-seat stadium in Australia’s second-largest city, as well as tour sponsorship and merchandise money.
Spurs are undoubtedly capitalising on Ange Postecoglou’s popularity in his own country.
This will all add to Tottenham’s transfer budget, which is now set before the market opens in mid-June.
