Tottenham make enquiry for £63m Johnson replacement who scores 800% more than Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur are already moving quickly to reshape their attack after a busy period of change, with fresh enquiries being made for a new forward following the departure of Brennan Johnson.

The North London club are looking at several options as they prepare for life without players who are no longer central to the manager’s plans, and one high-profile name has now entered the conversation alongside their long-standing interest in Manchester City winger Savinho.

Brennan Johnson has officially completed his move from Tottenham to Crystal Palace in a deal worth £35 million. The 24-year-old Wales international has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at Selhurst Park, bringing his time in North London to an end.

Despite finishing last season as Spurs’ top scorer, Johnson struggled to cement his place under new manager Thomas Frank and gradually slipped down the pecking order. His exit feels sudden to some fans, but within the club it is seen as part of a wider rebuild aimed at reshaping the squad to better fit the manager’s ideas.

Johnson is expected to make his Palace debut against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday, a fixture that will attract plenty of attention given the circumstances of his move.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are focused firmly on what comes next. Johnson is not the only attacker whose future is uncertain, with Mathys Tel also facing an unclear path forward at the club.

Tel has reportedly fallen out of favour under Frank and has struggled to secure regular minutes. There are suggestions of tension behind the scenes, and Spurs are now open to letting the young forward leave on loan to get more game time.

Galatasaray are among the clubs showing interest, and Tottenham are willing to listen if the right opportunity presents itself. With both Johnson gone and Tel likely to follow, Spurs know they must act fast to avoid being left short in attacking areas.

Savinho has been heavily linked as one possible solution. The Brazilian winger has found opportunities limited at Manchester City, where competition for places is fierce. With players like Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki all performing well, Savinho has struggled to make a lasting impact at the Etihad.

A move away could help him revive his momentum, but Tottenham are not alone in monitoring his situation, and there are concerns internally about his recent output.

As Spurs weigh up their options, they have also made an enquiry about another Manchester City attacker, Omar Marmoush. The Egypt international only joined City 12 months ago in a deal worth around £63 million, including add-ons, after impressing at Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to reports, Tottenham have asked about his availability as they explore alternatives to Savinho and look for a more reliable attacking threat.

Any move for Marmoush would be difficult. Manchester City have shown no real desire to sell him midway through the season, and prising him away would require serious intent and a strong financial commitment.

Aston Villa are also said to be monitoring his situation, adding another layer of competition if City do decide to listen to offers.

Marmoush is currently away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, where he has already found the net once as Egypt topped their group. His time at City this season has been mixed, with injuries and form issues limiting his impact, but when you look at the numbers, they tell a more encouraging story.

Over the past year, Marmoush has averaged 0.46 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes, a figure that highlights his direct threat in the final third.

That output stands in sharp contrast to Savinho, who has managed just 0.05 non-penalty goals per 90 in the same period. Statistically, that places Savinho among the lowest-performing attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe’s top five leagues.

While numbers are not everything, Tottenham’s recruitment team are keenly aware that they need players who can consistently deliver end product, especially after losing a proven scorer like Johnson.

Pep Guardiola has previously spoken highly of Marmoush, offering insight into why City were keen to sign him and what makes him such an interesting player. Guardiola praised his attitude and adaptability, especially given the difficult circumstances under which he arrived. Joining a team that was not at its best midway through the season is never easy, yet Marmoush impressed with his willingness to make runs, his understanding of intensity, and his ability to fit into a possession-based system.

Those qualities are exactly what Tottenham are looking for as they attempt to build a more dynamic and flexible attack. Thomas Frank wants players who can work hard without the ball, stretch defences with intelligent movement, and still contribute goals and assists. Marmoush fits that profile far more closely than some of the other names being discussed.

However, any deal would come with challenges. Marmoush is under contract at Manchester City until the summer of 2029, meaning City hold a strong negotiating position.

Tottenham would likely need to make a compelling offer, both financially and in terms of the player’s role, to convince all parties that a move makes sense.

For now, Spurs are keeping their options open. They are exploring multiple targets, weighing up short-term needs against long-term planning, and trying to avoid rushing into a decision. With Johnson gone and Tel potentially heading out on loan, the pressure is on to get their next move right.

Whether that leads them to Savinho, Marmoush, or another name entirely remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Tottenham are determined to reshape their attack and ensure they remain competitive in the months ahead.
