Tottenham looking at £50M Premier League star to potentially replace Hojbjerg

Tottenham Hotspur is actively seeking a £50 million replacement for midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is widely expected to leave the club this summer.

With Hojbjerg’s tenure at Spurs seemingly drawing to a close, the club has set its sights on promising talents within the Premier League.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been a pivotal figure for Tottenham under previous managers such as José Mourinho, Nuno Espírito Santo, and Antonio Conte.

Despite his significant contributions, Hojbjerg found himself frequently benched during Ange Postecoglou’s first full season as head coach. Although he featured in 39 matches across all competitions, only eight of his 36 league appearances were as a starter.

Seeking more consistent playing time, Hojbjerg is reportedly keen to leave Spurs, following in the footsteps of Tanguy Ndombele.

Signed from Southampton for around £20 million in 2020, Hojbjerg has made 184 appearances for Tottenham, contributing 10 goals and 16 assists.

Despite his solid performance over the past four years, this summer may well mark the end of his stint with the club as Tottenham’s recruitment team looks for his replacement.

As the summer transfer window opens, Tottenham has made acquiring a central midfielder one of their top priorities. One name that has emerged as a potential target is Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

Postecoglou is reportedly a big fan of Gallagher, but the deal hinges on whether the Chelsea midfielder is willing to move to a rival club and if both clubs can reach an agreement.

Given the uncertainties surrounding Gallagher, Tottenham is wisely considering alternative options. One such option is Everton’s Amadou Onana, a player who has caught the eye of many with his performances in the Premier League.

According to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, Tottenham is interested in signing Amadou Onana from Everton. The Toffees have set a price tag of around £50 million for the 20-year-old midfielder.

Onana made 30 league appearances last season, becoming a mainstay in Sean Dyche’s midfield. His potential has been lauded by many, including former Belgium manager Roberto Martinez, who described Onana as one of the most talented young players in European football.

Martinez’s high praise highlights Onana’s potential to make a significant impact at Tottenham. He stated, “He’s a really exciting footballer. Measuring potential is difficult, but at 20, Onana is one of the most talented young players in Europe. He’s already played in Germany and France, joined Lille for a big fee, and won’t be fazed by a new project.”

Comparing Onana to former Everton player Marouane Fellaini, Martinez added, “He has the physicality and presence that Everton fans will recognize. Onana is one of the most exciting prospects in European football at this time.”

Onana’s potential transfer to Tottenham aligns with the club’s strategy to rebuild and strengthen their squad. His versatility, physicality, and youthful energy could bring a fresh dynamic to Tottenham’s midfield.

At 20, Onana represents a long-term investment that could pay dividends as Postecoglou aims to mold a competitive team capable of challenging for top honors in both domestic and European competitions.

While Tottenham has not historically been among the biggest spenders, the necessity to revamp the squad is clear.

With expected departures freeing up the wage bill, investing in a player like Onana could be a prudent move. His acquisition would not only replace Hojbjerg but also potentially elevate the team’s overall performance.

As Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks set to leave Tottenham, the club’s focus on securing a suitable replacement has brought Amadou Onana into the spotlight.

With his impressive performances and high potential, Onana could be a key addition to Postecoglou’s squad. The upcoming transfer activities will be crucial in shaping Tottenham’s fortunes for the next season, and securing Onana could mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the club.
