Tottenham in very advanced discussions with £88m forward’s camp over Spurs move – Sky journalist

Tottenham have already begun shaping their long-term transfer plans, and it appears they are moving quickly behind the scenes. Even though the next major window is still some distance away, the club is said to be in very advanced talks with the representatives of one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers.

With plenty of competition expected and a need to strengthen their forward options, Spurs seem determined not to fall behind in the race.

Right now, it is no secret that Tottenham need more quality in the final third. Thomas Frank has made it clear that improving creativity and attacking sharpness is one of his biggest priorities.

The team’s recent 2-2 draw against Newcastle highlighted that issue again. Despite somehow scraping a point thanks to two late goals from Cristian Romero, the worrying part was that both goals were Tottenham’s only shots on target. For a team with ambitions of returning to the top level, that simply isn’t enough, and Frank knows it better than anyone.

Tottenham have been monitoring several forwards, and one of the first names to emerge has been FC Porto’s Samu Aghehowa. The 21-year-old has been in brilliant form, scoring six goals and providing an assist in just eleven league games this season.

His record for Porto is impressive overall, with 37 goals in 62 games since joining from Atlético Madrid. Spurs are believed to be intent on signing him, but the club are also keeping their options open as they assess the wider market.

A major reason Tottenham are accelerating their search is the ongoing injury problems within their squad. Dominic Solanke has struggled with recurring ankle issues and has barely featured since undergoing surgery in October.

Randal Kolo Muani has also had fitness concerns, even though he reminded everyone of his talent with a sensational performance against PSG, scoring twice and setting up another goal.

Mathys Tel has shown flashes of potential but is still raw, while Richarlison continues to blow hot and cold, making consistency a real concern.

This situation has pushed the club to explore multiple attacking targets. Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is one of those players. His release clause of £65 million becomes active in early January, and his physical style, work rate, and ability to carry the ball make him a tempting option.

Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye has also been linked as someone who can bring versatility and energy. However, Tottenham are not alone in their pursuit of Semenyo. Manchester City have also expressed serious interest, making the race for his signature extremely competitive and potentially expensive.

Because of that, Tottenham have turned their attention to another rising superstar: RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande. According to Sky Sports Switzerland reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Spurs are already deep into discussions with the 19-year-old’s camp.

The talks are said to be very advanced, with Liverpool also pushing hard to convince the player. While neither Premier League club has made formal contact with Leipzig yet, both are moving aggressively behind the scenes to position themselves ahead of their rivals.

Diomande has made a huge impression since joining Leipzig last summer for £17.5 million from Leganes. His development has been rapid and remarkable.

In just a few months, he has become an important part of Ole Werner’s attack, scoring four goals and providing four assists across 14 games. For a teenager who only made his senior debut earlier this year, the rise has been extraordinary.

Leipzig have noticed the growing attention and have placed a massive £88 million valuation on him, hoping to scare off clubs who may be tempted.

His price reflects how highly Leipzig rate him. The club believe he has the potential to become one of the best wide players in Europe, and they will not let him go cheaply. If he were to move for the reported fee, it could even surpass Leipzig’s record sale of Josko Gvardiol to Manchester City.

Barcelona have shown interest too, but they haven’t taken any official steps, leaving Liverpool and Tottenham as the current frontrunners.

There is even talk that both Premier League clubs might attempt a move as early as January. Leipzig, however, have been firm so far and have not entered formal negotiations with anyone.

For Thomas Frank, pursuing Diomande is both exciting and risky. The teenager has unbelievable potential, but he is also very new to the top level and would require patience, trust, and time to grow.

Still, Spurs cannot ignore the situation. They know how quickly the market can shift once Europe’s biggest clubs start circling a young star.

With their attack lacking sharpness and players struggling either physically or for form, Tottenham need fresh energy, new ideas, and genuine quality. Diomande offers all of that, and more.

Whether they can secure him remains to be seen, but it is clear that Spurs are serious about transforming their forward line before 2026 arrives.
