Tottenham have already completed transfer to benefit them for years to come
Yang Min-hyeok has quickly made an impression just four games into his loan spell with Queens Park Rangers, earning glowing reviews for his performances.
After coming off the bench in his first three appearances, QPR manager Marti Cifuentes entrusted the 18-year-old with a starting role in Friday night’s home match against Derby County. The decision proved to be a masterstroke as Yang delivered a standout performance in a dominant 4-0 victory, even contributing an assist for Ilias Chair’s second goal.
Although Yang only played 63 minutes, his impact was undeniable. His contributions solidified his case to start in QPR’s upcoming fixture against Portsmouth.
Questions surrounding how Yang would adapt to the physicality and intensity of the Championship seem to have been answered already. Far from looking out of place, he has shown he can compete against seasoned players while showcasing his attacking flair. The former Gangwon FC starlet has stood out with his pace, skill, and creativity on the ball, making him a handful for opposition defenders.
One moment in the first half against Derby highlighted Yang’s confidence and ability. Turning sharply, he slipped the ball through Callum Elder’s legs before linking up with Michael Frey and continuing his run.

His technical quality and vision were on full display again in the second half during a sequence of play with Frey that ended with Yang hitting the post from a tight angle. Though the linesman raised his flag for offside, the exchange between the two players was exceptional, with Yang executing a clever backheel to set up the move.
Yang’s most notable contribution came just before the hour mark when he delivered a precise assist for Chair’s goal. After a driving run down the right flank, Yang entered the box and pulled the ball back perfectly for Chair to finish emphatically into the roof of the net.
Chair’s immediate reaction—pointing directly at Yang in acknowledgment—was a testament to the young South Korean’s influence. The entire QPR team joined in the celebration, recognizing the importance of his contribution.
It was, without question, Yang’s best performance in a QPR shirt since his arrival, and one that would not have gone unnoticed by those monitoring his progress at Tottenham.
Marti Cifuentes expressed his satisfaction with Yang’s display after the match. Speaking to QPR’s media, the Spaniard praised the winger for his high-quality moments while acknowledging the need for further adaptation to the league and QPR’s style of play.
Cifuentes noted that Yang is still adjusting to the pace and demands of the Championship, which differs significantly from his previous experience in South Korea. However, he commended the 18-year-old for his positive contributions, particularly highlighting the assist for the third goal as a moment of brilliance.
Yang’s early success at QPR bodes well for all parties involved. If he can maintain this level of performance and development over the remaining 13 games of the 2024/25 season, his loan spell could prove invaluable for his growth.
With QPR now within four points of a play-off spot, there’s potential for Yang to play an even more significant role should the team extend their campaign with additional matches in the postseason.
Looking ahead, Yang will return to Tottenham’s Hotspur Way in July, armed with the experience of half a season in the Championship. His performances at QPR could position him to catch the eye of Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou during pre-season.
Tottenham’s summer friendlies will provide an ideal platform for Yang to stake his claim for a place in the first-team squad. With potential changes among Tottenham’s wingers—such as the likelihood of Timo Werner’s loan spell ending—Yang could climb the pecking order and find himself in contention for regular minutes.
While his immediate focus remains on helping QPR push for a play-off spot, Yang’s long-term ambition is clear: he aims to establish himself in north London and make his mark at Tottenham.
His performances over the next few months will be crucial in determining whether he can achieve that goal. If his early displays are any indication, Yang has the talent and determination to succeed at the highest level.
The progress he has already shown in just 120 minutes of playing time suggests that he is well on his way to making his dreams a reality.
