Tottenham Hotspur could face a significant challenge in retaining Micky van de Ven, as Manchester United reportedly eyes the star center-back, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s side among several top clubs vying for his signature.

Considering Van de Ven’s initial price tag of £43 million and his improved performances in the Premier League, acquiring him would likely come at a premium.

Moreover, Tottenham selling to a direct rival, a scenario they resisted with Harry Kane last summer, and Daniel Levy’s reputation for driving hard bargains could further complicate negotiations, potentially resulting in a hefty transfer fee.

Despite United’s interest, Van de Ven may opt to remain at Tottenham for the time being, especially considering Spurs’ current position in the league standings.

With Tottenham currently fifth, just ahead of United in sixth, staying in North London could be the wisest decision for the defender.

Nevertheless, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ambitious plans for United and the allure of joining a project aiming to reclaim the club’s former glory could sway Van de Ven’s decision.

With additional quality signings, United could bolster their squad and mount a challenge to leapfrog Tottenham in the standings.
