Tottenham could now make move to sign ‘terrific’ midfielder after scouting him for two years
Since 2022, Tottenham Hotspur has been keeping an eye on a player in the Championship.
Tottenham seems to be preparing for a busy summer as they work to assemble a team in Ange Postecoglou’s likeness.
Spurs’ fifth-place result guaranteed them a position in the Europa League for the next season, but there is still much to be done in order to get ready to play in Europe again.
Postecoglou’s desire for reinforcements at centre back, in midfield, and up attack is well known.
One player with whom Spurs have been connected for a while is the gifted midfielder Hayden Hackney of Middlesborough.
Hackney was allegedly the subject of a January transfer plan by Tottenham, and it seems that they are still considering the Englishman.
Tottenham may attempt to get Hayden Hackney
Spurs had reportedly been interested in Hackney for a long time after observing him during the 2022–2023 season, according to The Northern Echo.
Tottenham remained interested in the 21-year-old and kept an eye on his development over the first part of the previous season.
The North Londoner’s interest shouldn’t be diminished even if he had an injury that prevented him from playing for the last three months of the season.
Tottenham need to take note of Adam Wharton’s error.
Adam Wharton, a gifted midfielder who completed a move from Blackburn Rovers to Crystal Palace, was not signed by Spurs in January.
Since then, Wharton has excelled in the Premier League and been called up to the England team in front of the Euros.
Tottenham would undoubtedly want to make sure they don’t make the same error with Hackney, who is also drawing attention from Newcastle.
With former Spurs player Michael Carrick coaching him, Hackney has performed well for Boro over the last two seasons. Carrick called Hackney a “terrific” potential back in December 2022.
He contributed to four goals in 28 appearances this season before suffering an injury that kept him out of the game for the rest of it.
