Tottenham contact serie A club agent to sign 22-yr-old Italian international

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly established contact with Bologna and the representatives of Riccardo Calafiori as they aim to strengthen their defensive lineup.

According to Italian journalist Orazio Accomando, Spurs are keen on the 22-year-old Italian international, who has garnered significant attention due to his performances in Serie A.

Riccardo Calafiori has made a name for himself since his move to Bologna from FC Basel last summer. The Rome native, who developed his skills in AS Roma’s youth academy, found stability at Basel before his breakthrough season at Bologna.

In his 33 appearances for the Rossoblu, Calafiori has scored twice and played a crucial role in Bologna’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League. His consistent performances have also earned him a spot in the Italian national team, where he started in Italy’s Euro 2024 opener against Albania.

Tottenham’s interest in Calafiori aligns with their ongoing search for a reliable centre-back.

Despite adding Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin in the past year, Spurs are looking to reinforce their defense, especially with Eric Dier’s future at the club uncertain.

Calafiori’s ability to step into midfield and control games, similar to Manchester City’s John Stones, makes him an attractive prospect for Tottenham’s high defensive line under manager Ange Postecoglou.

However, securing Calafiori’s signature might prove challenging. The defender is reportedly inclined to stay in Italy, and several other clubs are also interested in him.

Convincing him to move to North London will require not only a compelling offer but also a clear vision of his role in Postecoglou’s system and Tottenham’s ambitions.

While Tottenham’s contact with Bologna and Calafiori’s representatives is a promising step, the North London club faces competition and the player’s own preference for staying in Italy.

If they manage to bring Calafiori to the Premier League, it would be a significant boost to their defense, potentially helping them aim higher in the upcoming season.
