Tottenham considering bringing back player from loan in January due to frustrating loan run

Tottenham Hotspur may be evaluating the possibility of recalling their young striker, Dane Scarlett, from his loan at Oxford United in January due to concerns about his limited playing time. The 20-year-old has been unable to secure regular minutes with the Championship club, which has led to doubts about whether the loan is truly benefiting his development.

John Wenham, host of the Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, expressed his frustration over Scarlett’s lack of game time.

Wenham emphasized Scarlett’s proven talent at the youth level, especially with England’s youth teams, but noted that the forward has not been given the consistent opportunities required to progress at the senior level.

Wenham suggested that Tottenham should consider recalling the striker during the January transfer window and potentially loaning him to a club where he would have a better chance of securing regular playing time.

Wenham, speaking to Tottenham News, defended Scarlett’s abilities, explaining that Scarlett consistently scores when playing for England’s youth teams. Despite this, his current situation at Oxford United has been disappointing.

Wenham expressed frustration that Tottenham had loaned Scarlett to a club where he is not playing regularly, which is crucial for his development.

He added that the situation could not continue beyond January, suggesting that if Scarlett were to be recalled, he should be sent to a club where he would be a starter, as playing time is essential for him to score and continue improving.

Scarlett, a product of Tottenham’s academy, made his first-team debut for Spurs in 2020 during a Europa League match against Ludogorets, becoming the youngest player to appear for the club at the time.

Despite showing great promise early on, his loan spells, including the current one at Oxford United, have been marked by a lack of opportunities to play regularly.

So far this season, he has only made four substitute appearances in the Championship, totaling just 36 minutes of playing time according to Transfermarkt.

If Tottenham decides to recall Scarlett in January, they will likely seek a loan move where the young striker can get consistent game time. Regular playing time would be crucial to his growth as one of the club’s most promising young talents, helping him develop into a more experienced and confident player.

Without consistent opportunities to play, Scarlett’s growth could be stunted, and his future at Tottenham could be in question.
