Tottenham can trump Arsenal with £42.5m-plus deal as off-pitch announcement imminent

Tottenham’s Commercial Strategy Could Outshine Arsenal with £42.5m Sleeve Sponsor Deal

Tottenham Hotspur are poised to surpass North London rivals Arsenal not just on the commercial front but potentially in terms of long-term financial sustainability. Spurs are negotiating a lucrative sleeve sponsorship deal worth £42.5 million, a move that could cement their financial dominance over Arsenal.

Spurs’ Financial Prowess

Despite Arsenal’s recent on-pitch success, finishing above Tottenham in the Premier League every season since 2016-17, Spurs have excelled in financial performance. Key to this is their move to the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and significant commercial partnerships. Their deals with Nike and AIA already bring in £30 million and £40 million per year respectively.

The £42.5m Sleeve Sponsorship Deal

Tottenham are looking to replace their current sleeve sponsor, Cinch, who pay £8 million per season. With the deal terminated a year ahead of schedule, Spurs are aiming for a new partnership worth £42.5 million over three years, equating to over £14 million per season. This potential deal surpasses Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea’s sleeve sponsorship revenues and would place Spurs just behind Manchester United (£20 million per year) and Manchester City (£18 million per year).

Broader Commercial Success

Tottenham’s commercial revenue for the 2022-23 season was £227.7 million, significantly higher than Arsenal’s £169.3 million. This success is bolstered by the ability to host non-football events at their stadium, including concerts by Beyoncé and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, generating substantial additional income.

Future Opportunities

The gap between Spurs and Arsenal could widen further if Tottenham secures a naming rights deal for their stadium, potentially worth over £150 million over a decade. This would add to their financial muscle, ensuring they remain competitive under the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
