Tottenham to decide £50M star deal, but £85M striker could be 100% sure to sign – journalist

Tottenham Hotspur are actively exploring the possibility of signing Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey this summer. Journalist Ben Jacobs reported to GIVEMESPORT that Spurs are keen to add the talented 23-year-old to their squad. However, the Villans are determined to retain Ramsey, making any potential deal complex and possibly expensive.

Aston Villa, aiming to maintain their squad strength ahead of their Champions League debut, are reluctant to lose Ramsey after already parting ways with Douglas Luiz, who moved to Juventus last month.

Villa’s commitment to keeping their core intact is further emphasized by their compliance with Profit and Sustainability Rules before the June 30th deadline.

While Tottenham are interested in Ramsey, they are also considering other potential signings. According to Jacobs, Spurs have a variety of alternatives, including Wolves winger Pedro Neto, RB Leipzig striker Lois Openda (who has an £85m release clause), and Lille attacker Jonathan David. These options might be easier to secure than Ramsey, depending on negotiations.

To facilitate Ramsey’s transfer, Tottenham might use Giovani Lo Celso as part of the deal. The Argentine midfielder, who saw limited playing time under Ange Postecoglou last season, could be an attractive addition for Villa. Unai Emery, Villa’s manager, reportedly has a keen interest in reuniting with Lo Celso, having previously worked together at Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal.

One potential concern for Tottenham is Ramsey’s injury history. The promising midfielder appeared in just 16 league games for Villa last season due to a toe injury that ended his campaign prematurely.

Spurs will need to carefully assess Ramsey’s fitness before committing to a significant financial outlay.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Ramsey will likely hinge on the financial aspects of the deal and Villa’s willingness to negotiate. Jacobs suggests that Spurs must be prepared to pay a substantial fee for the £50m-rated midfielder if they wish to secure his services. If not, they may need to pivot to their alternative targets, such as Neto, Openda, or David.

If a swap deal involving Lo Celso materializes, it could be beneficial for both clubs. Lo Celso, seeking more playing time, could find a fresh start at Villa under Emery’s management.

Since joining Tottenham in 2019, Lo Celso has made 108 appearances, contributing 18 goals. His versatility and experience could add significant value to Villa’s midfield.

The potential transfer of Jacob Ramsey to Tottenham Hotspur remains a complex and evolving situation. While Spurs are keen on the young midfielder, they face stiff resistance from Aston Villa.
