Tottenham ratings vs Brighton: Romero and Vicario build base for big win

Heung-min Son’s comeback motivated Tottenham to a 2-1 victory against Brighton in north London, with Ange Postecoglou’s side coming from behind.

Son, who came in as a substitute just after the hour, crossed for Brennan Johnson to score at the far post in the sixth and last minute of stoppage time.

In the first half, Brighton’s Pascal Gross converted a penalty after Micky van de Ven fouled Danny Welbeck.

Spurs improved after the half, and Pape Sarr equalised from a tight angle after Lewis Dunk put his original cross into the post.

Here’s how we assessed Tottenham’s players…

Guglielmo Vicario 8

Welbeck extended in the opening minute and denied Kaoru Mitouma with a fingertip save just before halftime. The penalty was sent the opposite way.

Pedro Porro 6

Mitoma put him to the test at times, but he is a reliable defensive player with superb ball control.

Christian Romero 8

Excellent in possession and defence, often moving out of the back line to halt Brighton advances.

Micky Van De Ven 5

Welbeck was fouled in the opening minute, resulting in a spot-kick for the striker, forcing Vicario to make a fantastic save.

Destiny Udogie 6

Brighton kept me in check despite a handful of attacking rushes.

Rodrigo Bentancur 5

Possession was lost on the edge of the box before to Brighton’s penalty, as well as before a Mitoma opportunity. Grew into the game and helped lead to Spurs’ equaliser.

Pape Sarr 7

In an enthusiastic effort, they finished really nicely for the goal. Occasionally loses possession, yet a very crucial part in this squad.

James Madison 7

He created Spurs’ first major opportunity with a wonderful ball to Richarlison and tested Jason Steele with a free kick. Passing to Richarlison was crucial to the victory.

Dejan Kulusevski 7

Came alive in the second half, playing through Sarr before the equaliser. Earlier, I forced Steele to save from close range. It was unfortunate that he was replaced at that time.

Timo Werner 6

Had the beating of his guy down the left, but the outcome was mixed. After a straight run, I made a low shot that came near.

Richarlison 6

When Maddison set him up, he fired straight at Steele, squandering several fine chances. Did open up a lot of opportunities for Richarlison and contributed significantly to the victory.
