Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping a close eye on one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers, as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next summer.
The club’s recruitment team has been actively scouting fresh talent, and a 20-year-old Belgian starlet from Ligue 1 has now emerged as a major target.
However, Tottenham are not alone in their pursuit, with several top Premier League sides also circling for his signature.
Since Thomas Frank took over at Spurs, the team has made impressive strides in attack, with Mohammed Kudus becoming a key figure on the right wing.
Kudus has been electric, offering pace, creativity, and a consistent goal threat that perfectly suits Tottenham’s high-tempo style. Yet, the left flank has remained a puzzle.
Despite trying several options including Wilson Odobert, Xavi Simons, Brennan Johnson, and Mathys Tel none have fully nailed down the position or delivered consistent performances.
This imbalance has prompted Tottenham to re-enter the market for another wide attacker, someone capable of matching Kudus’s dynamism on the opposite side.
That search has led them to Lyon’s talented Belgian winger, Malick Fofana, a player already making waves across Europe. Journalist Mark Brus recently revealed that Tottenham are one of several elite clubs keeping tabs on the 20-year-old.

Fofana, who joined Lyon from Gent in early 2024, has enjoyed a breakout year in Ligue 1, recording 17 goals and seven assists in just over a season.
His combination of raw pace, technical ability, and maturity beyond his years has made him one of the most talked-about young players in France.
According to Brus, initial discussions have already taken place between Fofana’s representatives and several interested clubs. The winger is said to be “hugely ambitious” and eager to take the next step in his career.
Lyon, aware of his rising stock, understand that it will be difficult to keep hold of him beyond next summer. Premier League giants Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all expressed interest, while Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation closely.
Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be among the frontrunners, with Spurs particularly keen to add another versatile attacker who fits Thomas Frank’s tactical system.
This isn’t the first time Tottenham have been linked with Fofana. Reports from earlier this year suggested that the North London club had already made inquiries about his availability.
At that time, Lyon’s valuation estimated between £40 million and £45 million was seen as too steep for a player still in the early stages of his development.
However, with Fofana’s consistent performances and growing reputation, that price tag could climb even higher by next summer, especially if he continues to impress in Ligue 1.
For Tottenham, a move for Fofana would represent both an investment in the future and a statement of intent.
The club’s focus under Frank has been on building a young, energetic, and attack-minded squad capable of competing at the top level both domestically and in Europe.
Adding a player of Fofana’s caliber would give Spurs more depth, balance, and creativity in wide areas a crucial component as they aim to secure Champions League qualification.
Fofana’s profile perfectly aligns with Tottenham’s current direction. He’s quick, technically gifted, and fearless when taking on defenders traits that fit the club’s dynamic style.
Moreover, his ability to operate on either flank could give Frank greater tactical flexibility, allowing Spurs to rotate effectively across competitions.
While the race for his signature will be intense, Tottenham’s growing reputation under Frank and their attractive attacking setup could give them a genuine advantage.
If Spurs can pull off the deal, Malick Fofana could become the next big name to light up the Premier League a young, hungry talent ready to make his mark at one of England’s most ambitious clubs.
