Tottenham agree deal for first potential sale of the summer

The Mirror report that Tottenham have agreed a deal with Millwall for the permanent transfer of academy graduate, Japhet Tanganga, subject to personal terms.

The 25-year-old central defender has been on loan with Millwall for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign and has been an absolute hit at The Den.

Millwall managed to stave off relegation this season and a large part of that was down to some superb defending from Tanganga, as well as a couple of important goals.

Millwall want to sign Japhet Tanganga permanently

Now it seems The Lions want to keep the Tottenham defender around for next season as they explore a permanent deal for Tanganga. However, while Millwall have agreed terms with Spurs, they are yet to get the green light from Tanganga and his agents.

The report suggests that Millwall could face ‘fierce competition’ for Tanganga’s signature this summer, which is why they have decided to move early for him.

The centre-back is out of contract at Tottenham this summer, but the Lilywhites do have an option to extend his deal by an extra year. It is unclear whether Spurs will receive a fee for any potential transfer.

Tanganga should have really left Tottenham two years ago but it will be nice to finally see him get some first-team football and kickstart his career with a permanent move. With his injury history, he isn’t well-suited to sitting on the bench at a big club.
