Tottenham eye swoop to re-sign £17m star as Postecoglou looks to seal 2nd summer signing

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to bring back Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton this summer.

According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, the 27-year-old defender, who rose through the Spurs’ youth system, is being considered as a key addition to the squad.

Walker-Peters joined Southampton initially on loan in 2020 before making the move permanent. During his time at St. Mary’s Stadium, he displayed promising peperformances.

Despite enduring relegation last season, he played a crucial role in helping Southampton secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

Impressed by Walker-Peters’ displays in the Championship, Tottenham are now planning to bring their academy graduate back to the club.

As reported by Thomas on Sky Sports (via GiveMeSport), with Emerson Royal expected to leave this summer, Tottenham are in the market for a new right-back and have identified Walker-Peters as a cost-effective option.

Walker-Peters, valued at around £17 million by Transfermarkt, is in the final year of his current contract. This situation makes Southampton potentially open to letting him leave in a cut-price deal to avoid losing him for free next year.

Tottenham are preparing for a significant spending spree this summer to reinforce their squad. They have already secured the signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United in a £40 million deal.

Additionally, Spurs are expected to add reinforcements in the center-forward and center-back positions. Given their multiple targets, signing Walker-Peters as a budget option to bolster the right-back position makes strategic sense.

Walker-Peters is a versatile defender, comfortable playing in either fullback position. His quickness, strength, ability to play out from the back, and defensive contributions make him a valuable asset.

Moreover, he can support the team offensively, adding another layer to his potential value for Tottenham.

Bringing Walker-Peters back could be a shrewd move for Tottenham. His familiarity with the club, combined with his proven abilities, would provide depth and quality to the squad.

As Tottenham aim to improve on their fifth-place finish in Postecoglou’s debut campaign, the addition of Walker-Peters could play a significant role in their success.
