Tottenham now £10M away from breakthrough over signing complete player

Recent weeks have seen Tottenham Hotspur heavily linked with Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, intensifying speculation now that the January transfer window is underway.

The growing connection between Spurs and the 21-year-old has largely been positive in terms of Tottenham’s advancement towards securing Dragusin. Fabrizio Romano recently highlighted that the Romania international has reached an agreement on terms with Spurs.

However, contrasting reports from Sky Sport Italia indicate a disparity in valuation between Tottenham and Genoa compared to earlier suggestions. While Sky Sports UK initially reported a £5 million difference, the Italian outlet indicates a larger divide of approximately £10 million.

Genoa appears firm in their valuation of Dragusin at €35 million (just over £30 million), while Spurs are reluctant to surpass €23 million (£20 million) at most.

Adding complexity to the situation, Napoli might pose a challenge soon, contemplating their own bid for Dragusin. Reports suggest the Serie A champions are willing to propose a player-plus-cash offer of €20 million (£17.4 million) along with Leo Ostigard.

However, it’s unlikely that Napoli will present a higher offer, leaving Tottenham with the responsibility to elevate their bid and secure the deal.

Despite the apparent stumbling block in negotiations, this scenario is typical of the bargaining process in transfers. Initial bids seldom reflect the final agreement.

As the transfer window commences, there’s time for Spurs to potentially outbid Napoli without overpaying for Dragusin, albeit without complacency.

Dragusin appears to be an attractive prospect for Tottenham, showcasing impressive performances in Serie A. His youth, immense talent, and availability in a market reluctant to part with top talents further enhance his appeal.

Jacek Kulig from Football Talent Scout once deemed Dragusin a “complete and dominant” center-back. Since then, his progression indicates a promising career breakthrough. Whether it unfolds at Spurs remains to be seen.
