Erik Lamela now sends dreadful message to Tottenham after seeing what was posted online
Erik Lamela remains a beloved figure among Tottenham fans, even though he left the club for Sevilla in 2021. The Argentine international made 257 appearances for Spurs after his £25.8 million transfer from Roma in August 2013. During his time in north London, he scored 37 goals and provided 44 assists.
Tottenham supporters admired Lamela for his fiery spirit and his determination to become a key player under Mauricio Pochettino, particularly after a challenging start in the Premier League under Andre Villas-Boas.
His work ethic and passion earned him a special place in the hearts of the fans, and his legacy at the club still endures.
Recently, Lamela took to Instagram to send a heartfelt message to Tottenham, expressing his continued connection to the club. He commented, “I miss you,” in response to Tottenham’s post celebrating his famous rabona goal against Asteras Tripoli in October 2014.
That goal earned Lamela the UEFA Europa League Goal of the Season for 2014/15, an achievement that showcased his technical skill and creativity on the pitch.
Remarkably, the rabona against Asteras wasn’t his only one, as he also scored another stunning rabona in a north London derby against Arsenal, which won him the prestigious FIFA Puskas Award in 2021.
Despite moving on from Tottenham, Lamela still keeps a close eye on his former club and continues to show support for current players. One player in particular who has caught Lamela’s attention is Alejo Veliz, a young Argentine striker who joined Tottenham in August 2023 for £13 million from Rosario Central.
Veliz made an immediate impact, scoring a Premier League goal in just 45 minutes of playing time. Lamela and Veliz spent time together while the latter was on loan at Sevilla, and Lamela recently offered words of encouragement to the 21-year-old, calling him “the best of the best” in a message after Veliz secured another loan move to Espanyol.
Lamela’s influence on Veliz could be pivotal as the young forward continues to develop his career in north London. With his years of experience in European football and knowledge of the Premier League, Lamela may serve as a mentor to Veliz, offering guidance and advice to help the striker reach his full potential.
Tottenham fans will surely hope that Veliz can follow in Lamela’s footsteps and make his own lasting impact at the club.
Lamela’s continued support for Tottenham and his admiration for Veliz demonstrate that his bond with the club remains strong, even years after his departure.
His iconic moments in a Spurs shirt, particularly his rabona goals, continue to be celebrated by fans, ensuring his place as one of Tottenham’s most memorable players.
As Veliz embarks on his journey with the club, the Tottenham faithful will be eager to see whether he can emulate Lamela’s passion and skill, creating his own legacy in north London.
