Time to let go: Spurs must sell £70k/w Pochettino signing who earns more than Bissouma & VDV
Since arriving in the summer, the Spurs star has had difficulty adjusting to life in the Premier League.
As a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur, the future seems very bright, with a relatively young team under the brilliant management of Ange Postecoglou.
For Spurs supporters, the season has been a welcome change of pace overall, as the new players have somewhat lessened the impact of Harry Kane’s departure.
The most astounding thing, however, is the money spent for such skill and the fact that they were signed to contracts that were far from spectacular; Micky van de Ven is a perfect example of this.
However, this hasn’t always been the case; a number of Lilywhites players in the past have been unable to justify the salary and transfer fees paid for them.
What Micky van de Ven and Yves Bissouma make at Spurs
There is no denying that Yves Bissouma and Van de Ven are essential components of Postecoglou’s philosophy and style of play, and that they are now practically indispensable to the team.
This season in the Premier League, the eight has made twenty appearances, while the Dutch defender has started eighteen and missed twelve because of two hamstring problems.
Still, the former Brighton & Hove Albion player makes £55k a week, which comes to little under £2.9 million a season.
Van van Ven, on the other hand, makes £50k a week, or £2.6 million a season. Both players are paid among the lowest salaries of Spurs’ regular first-team players, which is fantastic given their contribution.
It may also happen the other way around, too, with some people being paid more than they can reasonably justify on the pitch.
Giovani Lo Celso’s Spurs salary
Giovani Lo Celso’s tenure with the Lilywhites has not gone as expected; instead of playing for Spurs, the Argentine spends a large portion of his time on loan.
At a cost of £55 million, Mauricio Pochettino permanently acquired Lo Celso from Real Betis in the summer of 2019, but in 99 games since then, the midfield player has only contributed 18 goals.
With only 15 games in all competitions this season, four of those have actually come from this season. However, with James Maddison joining the team as the number-ten, it seems like the former PSG player’s greatest opportunity of recovering his club career is away from Tottenham.
Fortunately for Spurs and Lo Celso, the number 18 is still a vital member of the Argentina team. He even scored in the team’s most recent friendly against El Salvador. This might provide him the much-needed playing time he needs.
However, the 27-year-old is reportedly making £70k a week, which is obviously higher than Bissouma and Van de Ven’s salaries, but also comparable to many other important players, according to Capology.
He receives a salary comparable to that of Guglielmo Vacario, Destiny Udogie, and Pape Matar Sarr, all of whom Postecoglou is certain to start.

The contract for the former Betis star does, however, expire in June of next year, so the summer may be Spurs’ final chance to recover any of the money they originally paid for Lo Celso.
It’s quite unlikely that the creative master would play continuously until his contract expires until there is a change in the system or Maddison has an injury. In other words, Spurs will continue to be disoriented unless they decide to sell him. They should think about doing it in the next months.
