Conte clear the air on famous Tottenham rant after a year of being sacked

The Italian said in what turned out to be his last news conference as manager that Spurs players had trouble with pressure.

Before being fired, Antonio Conte said he had no remorse for attacking Tottenham players at Southampton.

In what turned out to be his farewell speech, Conte attacked the Spurs players after they let a two-goal lead slip to draw 3-3 at St Mary’s, criticising their attitude and claiming they didn’t “want to play under pressure.”

In an interview with the Telegraph, Conte spoke for the first time since quitting Spurs, stating: “At that moment, my feeling was that.” If I speak the truth, it implies that there is always truth.

“To be honest, I have no regrets about this at all. However, I feel positively about Tottenham. I treasure this experience forever.

When asked if he was too honest, Conte said, “I am this way. I detest lying. This may sometimes be helpful to me or harmful. However, I would rather keep quiet than make a nice falsehood about my connection with my athletes.

“It may come up throughout the season that you need to have an open discussion about anything, either good or unpleasant. I am extremely familiar with this; when I was a player, some instructors would tell me nice falsehoods to help me stay calm. This is not the kind of environment I desire.

“I am fully aware that the players may first get irate when you have these open discussions with them. Then, in my experience, the gamer learns to value you over time. After becoming irate, they expressed gratitude for the candour.

A little more than a month prior to his dismissal from Tottenham, Conte had emergency gallbladder surgery. After just one week, he returned to work, but he needed an additional four weeks to recuperate completely.
