‘Talks are taking place’: Tottenham are now in discussions for ‘unbelievable’ player deal

Tottenham Hotspur look set for a busy summer in the transfer market in wake of a decent maiden season for Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian guided Spurs to fifth place in the Premier League and a spot in the Europa League for next season.

Tottenham were much improved from the 2022/23 campaign, in which they limped to an eighth-placed finish, and will be eager to kick on in 2024/25.

We’re also likely to see outgoings from Spurs, with some players appearing to have a future away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

One of those is Djed Spence, who has struggled to make an impact at Tottenham since his switch from Middlesbrough in 2022.

Spence has made just six competitive appearances for Spurs and has gone out on loan three times while on the Lilywhites’ books.

The 23-year-old spent the first half of last season at Leeds United before returning to Tottenham and going out on loan to Genoa.

The Serie A side is seemingly eager to sign Spence permanently, and Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the player’s future.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Tottenham defender Djed Spence and Genoa?

Romano has taken to X to claim that Spurs are open to negotiating with Genoa for Spence to leave on a permanent transfer.

“Talks are taking place as Genoa want Spence and Vitinha (from Marseille) to stay at the club next season,” added the transfer insider.

Djed Spence appears surplus to Tottenham requirements

Djed Spence joined Spurs to considerable fanfare after his heroics with loan club Nottingham Forest in 2021/22, helping them reach the Premier League.

However, the “unbelievable” talent hasn’t managed to make his mark at Tottenham, and so it looks as though the best thing is for him to continue his career elsewhere.

Spence appears surplus to Postecoglou’s requirements, so for his sake, he should leave and sign for a club that will play him regularly.
