‘He was the one’: Lukas Podolski suggests Arsenal should’ve signed ‘underrated’ player from Tottenham last summer

Lukas Podolski, a fan favourite of Arsenal’s, has dropped hints that he has one former Tottenham Hotspur star he would want to see sign with the club in 2023.

After signing with Arsenal from Koln in 2012, the German remained on the books for three years. For an attacker who usually played on the wing, his 82 appearances for Arsene Wenger’s team were more than enough, as he scored 31 goals and set up 15 more.

Podolski has departed the club, but he has now hinted that he wanted a former Tottenham player to wear the number nine jersey at Arsenal last year. Since then, a few forwards have worn it.

One of the top strikers in the world, Harry Kane, should have joined for Arsenal in 2023, according to Lukas Podolski.

The Englishman left Tottenham at the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, and almost every team worldwide would have delighted to have signed him had it been feasible.

Bayern Munich were the only team that really wanted him, thus he set a club record by moving to the Allianz Arena.

The forward was a major headache for Arsenal during his time at Tottenham, and he returned to his old tricks in April while wearing the jersey of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Mirror dubbed Kane “underrated,” yet he has subsequently been sensational for Bayern, helping set up more than 50 goals in only his first season.

Podolski is aware of this, which is likely why, upon hearing that he wanted out of Tottenham in 2023, he believes Arsenal should have signed him.

According to Podolski’s interview with the Daily Mail, his former team has made great strides, although they are now starting Kai Havertz up front.

“They signed Declan Rice, but they’ll need a No. 9, a goal-scoring target striker, to be competitive next season.”

Podolski resorted to last summer’s claims that Kane was Arsenal’s striker of choice when asked which player the club should have signed.

According to him, Harry Kane wanted to leave Tottenham, but given his past there, a transfer to Arsenal was out of the question.

For that reason, he transferred to Bayern Munich. Neither he nor Bayern Munich were wrong to do it. Among all the available options, he stood alone.

After all that has transpired since Kane left the Spurs, Podolski mercilessly mocks him.

Podolski still managed to poke fun at the former Tottenham player, even though he would have preferred Kane to be at Arsenal.

The Gunners faithful still hold the German in the highest esteem. After a North London derby victory, he even joined the visiting fans in celebrating at White Hart Lane.

Now that Podolski is aware of the animosity between Arsenal and Tottenham, he has made fun of Kane’s situation since he joined Bayern.

In the same season that Kane won trophies after leaving Spurs, the former Gunners forward made fun of Bayern for failing to win a single trophy.

“I can already see the story when Bayern Munich are third in the Bundesliga and out of the Champions League, even though Kane is scoring goals,” Podolski added.

Maybe we have another great tale to tell, similar to Tottenham’s: we’ll travel to Bayern and fail miserably!
