I’m absolutely staggered: Chris Sutton can’t believe what he heard about Ange Postecoglou now
When Ange Postecoglou first came at Tottenham, he got right to work.
The Australian had Spurs at the top of the league after three months in the job, and it seemed as if he had revolutionized the squad.
However, following a record of only six victories in Spurs’ previous 15 games, questions are being raised of both Tottenham and their manager.
Speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton took a lot of calls from Spurs supporters who had issues about the team’s style at the moment, and he adds that he’s surprised that these complaints are beginning now, stating that Spurs fans were longing for this sort of style last season under Antonio Conte.
Postecoglou complaints
Sutton expressed his perspective on what he’d heard some Spurs supporters saying about Postecoglou.
“Do you know what Robbie? I assumed these calls would come next season about Spurs having to be more realistic, but we’ve had a few of Spurs supporters on already, I’m genuinely astonished by these fans we’ve had on, this is what they wanted and now they’re whining about it, deary me,” Sutton said.
Bad run
We can clearly see why Postecoglou is being questioned — this is a horrible run of form.
Six victories in 15 matches isn’t good enough by any level of expectation. To put into perspective, Antonio Conte had seven victories in his last 15 games before being ousted as the manager of Tottenham last season.
Of course, the underlying difficulties at Spurs last term were tough to ignore, but in terms of on-field performances, Spurs are falling back down to the level they displayed for big stretches of last term.
If Tottenham want to finish in the top four, they need to improve and regain the form they displayed at the beginning of the Postecoglou period.
