Spurs won the lottery with “incredible” star who’s worth more than Chiesa & Gallagher – opinion

This month has been incredibly busy for Tottenham Hotspur. With three pre-season friendlies already under their belt and another one scheduled for later today, the club has also made headlines with the signing of the highly promising Archie Gray from Leeds United.

However, the excitement doesn’t end there. Reports suggest that Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy, and his team are gearing up for an even more active period in the final weeks of the transfer window, as a slew of stars are being linked to the North London club.

Among the names creating a buzz are Conor Gallagher and Federico Chiesa. These potential signings are exciting, but it’s noteworthy that they might still not surpass the value of one of Tottenham’s current stars.

The situation with Federico Chiesa is somewhat unclear. The Italian international has been consistently linked with a move to Spurs over recent weeks. On Monday night, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed that talks had begun between Chiesa’s representatives and Tottenham.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there hasn’t been any official contact regarding a potential deal for the winger yet.

Despite this, the interest in Chiesa has been widely reported, and if he does make his way to North London, the fee is expected to be around £25 million. Considering Chiesa’s stature and performance, this seems like a reasonable amount.

The case with Conor Gallagher appears to be more straightforward. Sky Sports recently reported that Atlético Madrid and Tottenham are both interested in the English midfielder. While Atlético Madrid is in talks with Chelsea, Tottenham is expected to make an offer soon.

Chelsea is reportedly seeking a fee north of £50 million for Gallagher. Although this is a significant sum, it would still be less than the valuation of one of Tottenham’s star players.

The player in question is Argentine international Cristian Romero, who has become one of Tottenham’s most crucial and valuable assets since his £42 million transfer from Atalanta in August 2021.

According to Transfermarkt, Romero’s current market value stands at €65 million (approximately £55 million), which is £5 million more than the potential fee for Gallagher and a staggering £30 million more than Chiesa’s expected cost.

Romero’s hefty valuation as a center-back is well-deserved. Since joining Tottenham, he has made 98 appearances for the club, won two Copa América titles, and lifted the World Cup in Qatar.

His performances have earned him the admiration of many, including Lionel Messi, who has called him the “best defender in the world.”

Romero’s importance to Tottenham is further highlighted by his appointment as co-vice captain alongside James Maddison before the start of last season. Over the past year, he has more than lived up to this responsibility, solidifying his place as a key figure in the squad.

While signing Federico Chiesa and Conor Gallagher would undoubtedly enhance Tottenham’s squad and add to the excitement, these players will need to achieve something extraordinary in a Tottenham shirt to surpass the valuation and impact of Cristian Romero.

As the transfer window draws to a close, Spurs fans eagerly await further developments, hoping for a strong finish to an already eventful transfer season.
