Spurs in talks with Star player over terminating final year of player’s deal

The 27-year-old is expected to depart north London, having made just 91 appearances since his club-record signing in 2019.

According to the PA news agency, Tottenham are in negotiations with Tanguy Ndombele about terminating the midfielder’s contract for the last 12 months.

Ndombele joined Spurs from Lyon in 2019 as a club record signing for up to £63 million.

The seven-cap France international, however, has failed to live up to expectations and is ready to leave Tottenham after just 91 appearances.

Following a challenging initial season with Spurs, in which Ndombele made 29 appearances despite struggles with form and fitness under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho, the Frenchman would experience a comeback under the latter.

Ndombele made a streak of strong performances after football restarted following the coronavirus epidemic, and he was most consistent in the 2020-21 season, scoring 10 goals in 46 games.

Mourinho’s departure set off a downhill spiral for the 27-year-old, who battled for chances under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte before joining Lyon on loan at the start of 2022.

Poor time-keeping concerns, after an ankle injury in pre-season, led Postecoglou to let Ndombele to depart, and despite winning another league championship with Galatasaray last month, the Turkish club rejected to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis.
