Spurs must brutally ditch Mourinho signing who has drained Levy of £38M

There are supposedly other suitors for the midfield player, who wants to leave the team. Tottenham Hotspur still has a chance to move a player on since Turkey is showing interest in them despite the English transfer market closing on Thursday of last week.

Galatasaray is allegedly considering making a move to sign one of Ange Postecoglou’s players before the Turkish transfer market closes on Friday.

The Super Lig powerhouses have’made’ their move to recruit Argentine central midfielder Giovani Lo Celso from Spurs, according to Yeni Asir.

The player reportedly wants to leave North London because he is unhappy with his playing time at the team, although the story makes no mention of Tottenham’s willingness to negotiate.

But, Postecoglou and Spurs have to ruthlessly let go of the wantaway failure in order to recover a portion of the funds that have been depleted from Daniel Levy’s budget since his arrival at the team.

Spurs signing-day fee for Lo Celso

In the summer of 2019, the Lilywhites made a move to sign the midfield maestro on loan for the 2019–20 season from Real Betis, a Spanish team.

Afterwards, in January 2020, they signed a permanent contract with Jose Mourinho for an estimated sum of £27.2 million, as opposed to the £34 million that would have been required if they had made it to the Champions League at the conclusion of the season, as per the terms of the original loan agreement.

In his debut season with the club, he only started 15 Premier League games and made two assists, zero goals, and a 48% duel success rate. This implies that he had trouble with the division’s toughness and had little effect at the top of the field.

During the 2020–21 season, Lo Celso had 26 injuries that kept him out of competition, but he still managed to contribute one goal and one assist in 18 league appearances.

Due to injuries in the first part of the next season, the Argentine failure missed nine more games, which resulted in a January 2022 loan transfer to Villarreal.

He returned to be a member of Postecoglou’s team for this season after spending eighteen months in Spain. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old moron has only started four league games and has missed 10 due to different ailments.

Over time, Levy has been depleted by Lo Celso

According to reports, Lo Celso has been paid £70,000 per week since the beginning of the 2019–20 season, or around £3.6 million annually.

He joined the team in the summer of 2019 and has been with them for four and a half years, however he spent the first half of that time on loan from Real Betis. This indicates that in the four years after his permanent relocation was finished in January 2020, he has made around £16.2 million in salary, or £70,000 a week.

Nevertheless, Lo Celso did play for Villarreal for eighteen months on loan, but it’s unknown how much of his salary was covered by them while he was in Spain.

If Tottenham paid him in full, they may have saved almost £5.4 million in pay, bringing his total wage income at the club down to £10.8 million.

When you include in the £27.2 million transfer fee that was paid to get him, Lo Celso has cost Levy around £38 million in the last four years.

That is a sizable amount of money for a player who, in his more than four years at the club, has only started 32 Premier League games and has frequently been sidelined by injury. It appears that the midfielder has not offered much value for money given how infrequently he has been available or chosen to start and impact top-flight games.

Due to Galatasaray’s interest, Spurs must now mercilessly move beyond the Mourinho disaster and attempt to recover as much money as they can.
