My understanding – Journalist hints Spurs may re-sign “beautiful” player ahead of Pochettino

There have been rumours that Tottenham may try to recruit a previous player again who is also desired by Chelsea under former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The purchase of Radu Dragusin from Genoa may not be the end of Ange Postecoglou’s negotiations as a defender in 2024.

To strengthen Postecoglou’s center-back options, Spurs signed the Romanian for a reported £25 million. However, writer Dean Jones claims that the team is intending to recruit another “top-level” center-back this summer.

Jones told GiveMeSport last week that “the situation hasn’t changed, and Tottenham have always intended to sign two top-level center-backs throughout 2024.”

“Now that they have one through the door, they want to pursue another during the summer timeframe. Although Calafiori and Morato are being discussed at this point, a broader net is being cast. A number of intriguing possibilities are becoming available to them. Even yet, it seems that they are not making a commitment just yet, despite their desire to act quickly during the summer transfer window in a manner similar to what they did in the winter market.

Spurs are reportedly considering signing a new full-back in addition to a center-back, even though Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are playing well.

Both defenders have excelled in Postecoglou’s high-pressure pressing scheme as inverted wing-backs, often taking on pivotal roles in the attacking phase. However, Postecoglou is only supported by Emerson Royal and the frequently sidelined Ryan Sessegnon.

Tottenham may re-sign Walker-Peters and is interested in a new full-back.
Journalist Graeme Bailey of Tottenham News claims that one possibility for Spurs would be to re-sign Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters. Bailey claims that Pochettino’s Chelsea have also considered signing the right-back.

Bailey said, “From what I understand, they’re looking for someone who could be able to play both sides—maybe not Diego Dalot, but someone along those lines.”

Walker-Peters is someone Chelsea looked at as well, so I wouldn’t rule it out. The fourth center-half for these additions, in my opinion, should be either Lloyd Kelly or Tosin Adarabioyo, who could join for free. They are good Premier League players, but they will ultimately be seen as fourth choices. Spurs don’t have to shell out £60 million for a centre back.

According to WhoScored, the Englishman has started 33 Championship games for the Saints this season, shining as one of their outstanding performers. Russell Martin has also referred to him as a “beautiful footballer”.

“I wonder how important he’s become,” Adam Blackmore of Radio Solent stated (BBC).

“You simply wonder at the end of the season how crucial retaining him would have been, given what transpired in the summer over the alleged transfer interest. He plays such a crucial role in all they do. It seems as if the group is centred around him in order to maximise his potential.”
