’Spurs like him a lot’: Tottenham ‘favourites’ to sign 23-year-old ace this summer

Graeme Bailey believes Tottenham Hotspur are more likely to sign Santiago Gimenez compared to Liverpool.

The North London club parted ways with Harry Kane last summer. The departure of their record goal scorer just days before the end of the transfer window was a massive blow but they have managed to cope with his absence during the 2023/24 season.

While they did a decent job without Kane, Spurs are now looking to reinforce their attack and signing a world-class number nine is a top priority for them. Journalist Graeme Bailey recently opened up about the London club’s interest in Santiago Gimenez. He feels Spurs are very much in the race for his services.

While speaking to Rousing The Kop, Bailey said: “I think Spurs like him a lot, they’ve been doing work on him. I’d be making them favourites in that race at the moment.

“I haven’t heard too much on Liverpool. I know there’s the links with Arne Slot but how much impact the manager’s going to have on the search for players, I don’t think Liverpool are built like that. They might be asking about his players but I don’t think he would drive that.”

Gimenez has been in exceptional form since making the move to Feyenoord in 2022. In his second season at the club, the 23-year-old striker has 26 goals and eight assists in his 41 outings. His incredible form in front of goal has resulted in interest from the likes of Liverpool and Spurs.

The Reds seem to have an advantage in their pursuit with former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot taking over as their boss. However, Bailey feels that it is unlikely Slot will have much of a say on a potential transfer. He also added that Tottenham have been working on a potential move for some time now.

While Bailey feels they are favourites to sign the Mexican international, the asking price could make things difficult for them. Feyenoord reportedly want him to be the biggest sale in the history of Eredivisie which means interested clubs will have to fork out over £87 million that Manchester United paid for Antony back in 2022.
