After disappointing moment: Spurs could completely rid of Mourinho signings

While leading Tottenham, Jose Mourinho signed eleven players, although almost all of them have now departed the team. Since the Portuguese manager was fired in 2021, Spurs have improved significantly, and Ange Postecoglou has been a major contributor to their growth.

During his tenure as manager of Spurs, Mourinho had difficulties with recruiting and tactics.

The former Roma manager succeeded in getting the most out of certain superstars, like Harry Kane, but was unable to assist his recent signings in acclimating to his ways.

Spurs announced that they had fired Mourinho after 17 months in command. The 61-year-old left the north London team with a 51.16 percent victory rate.

Since almost every player the former Chelsea manager signed is no longer with the team, Spurs are no longer recognizable as the same team.

During his tenure at Tottenham, Mourinho approved the entry of ten players, and six of those players have already departed to pursue other possibilities.

During the summer transfer window, Mourinho’s tenure at Spurs may come to an end if the other four players left, since they are also strongly connected to transfers away from the team.

Mourniho’s first signing as Tottenham manager was Gedson Fernandes, however the midfield player was only brought in on loan from Benfica.

Before leaving the team to return to Portugal, he seldom played for them. Currently, he is attempting to restart his career with Turkish team Galatasaray.

Another loanee, Carlos Vinicius, returned to Benfica after making little impression at Spurs and left the team with only one goal during his time in England.

Ajax’s current captain, Steven Bergwijn, was another disappointing addition to the Spurs roster. The Dutch international played for Tottenham for 60 games until being let go in 2022 to make room for more intriguing wing alternatives like Dejan Kulusevski.

Mourinho also directed Tottenham to sign Joe Hart and Gareth Bale, although both players left the team soon after. After a short stint with Los Angeles FC last year, the latter is now enjoying retirement, while Hart, 36, plays for Celtic.

After joining Spurs for £13.4 million from Wolves, Matt Doherty left the team and returned to Molineux on a free transfer after a lackluster time at Atletico Madrid.

Spurs still have four of Mourinho’s acquisitions on their roster, but it seems certain that they will soon go as well. Giovani Lo Celso and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, two midfield players who were strongly connected to leaving Tottenham during the January transfer window, are expected to make formal approaches at the conclusion of the current campaign. It is noteworthy that Roma was also linked to both players.

Sergio Reguilon was also eager to leave Spurs last month, but no permanent bids came in, so he was permitted to sign a loan with Brentford until the end of the season. After joining the Bees, the Spaniard has participated in three games. He will be looking to make a lasting impression by gaining more playing time in order to get a permanent departure in the summer.

Joe Rodon, a forgotten Spurs defender who was brought in under Mourinho’s direction and has made only three appearances in four years with the team, may finally be allowed to depart. The Elland Road team is set to seek for a permanent transfer after the current season ends, as the 26-year-old is making an impression while on loan at Leeds United.
