‘Medical will happen’ – Spurs ‘close in’ on making £15m forward first summer signing
Tottenham Hotspur is edging closer to securing a significant transfer target this summer, with Sebastian Szymanski reportedly agreeing to personal terms for a four-year deal.
The North London club is now focused on finalizing the transfer fee with Fenerbahce.
Ange Postecoglou’s side initially tabled an offer of €17.5 million (£14.7 million). However, it’s expected that this offer will need to be increased significantly.
Previous reports from TEAMtalk in January suggested that a figure closer to £30 million might be required to secure the Polish international’s services.
Szymanski has been on the radar of several European clubs, including Lazio and Marseille. Despite this competition, Tottenham appears to be leading the race, with the player set to travel to England for a medical soon.
Szymanski began his professional career with Legia Warsaw in 2015. His promising performances caught the attention of Dynamo Moscow, where he moved in 2019. During his time in Russia, he made 77 league appearances, showcasing his skills and potential.
In the 2022/23 campaign, Szymanski went on loan to Feyenoord, further honing his abilities. His consistent performances led to a permanent move to Fenerbahce in July 2023, where he signed a four-year contract worth £8.2 million.
Since joining Fenerbahce, Szymanski has made a significant impact. He has featured in 55 matches across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 19 assists.
His average of a goal involvement every 1.71 games is particularly noteworthy. If he maintains this form at Tottenham, he would become the second most productive player on the team, following Son Heung-min.
In addition to his club success, Szymanski has been a key player for the Polish national team. He was included in Poland’s squad for the Euros 2024, most recently playing in a 1-1 draw against France. His international experience adds further value to his potential move to Tottenham.
Szymanski’s potential signing is crucial for Tottenham as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. With the departure of key players, including Harry Kane, the club needs to fill significant gaps. Szymanski’s versatility and attacking prowess could provide the creative spark Tottenham needs.
As Tottenham continues to negotiate the transfer fee with Fenerbahce, securing Sebastian Szymanski could prove to be a strategic move for the club.
His impressive track record, both at the club and international levels, suggests that he could make a substantial impact in North London.
Spurs fans will be eagerly awaiting official confirmation, hoping that Szymanski can help lead the team to success in the coming seasons.
