Spurs have edge over Chelsea, Newcastle in transfer race – Journalist
George Sessions, a PA Sport reporter, has highlighted that Tottenham holds a significant advantage in the pursuit of Antonio Nusa, as neither Chelsea nor Newcastle is capable of meeting Club Brugge’s asking price for the player.
Amid initial speculations that Newcastle might attempt to hijack Tottenham’s deal for Nusa, recent reports suggest that the Lilywhites are making progress towards securing the winger in a deal valued at £26 million.
The arrangement is expected to include loaning Nusa back to Brugge for the remainder of the season, but there remains a slight risk of the deal being hijacked, prompting Tottenham to expedite the process.
George Sessions has addressed concerns among Spurs fans by emphasizing that clubs like Newcastle and Chelsea, which have also expressed interest in Nusa, lack the financial capacity to meet Brugge’s £30 million asking price for the 18-year-old.
He added that unless a surprise entry, such as Liverpool, emerges in the equation, Tottenham is well-positioned to secure the promising winger.
Speaking about Tottenham’s negotiations for Nusa, Sessions mentioned on The Spurs Chat Podcast: “They want £30m, but they’re not going to get that from anyone else unless like a Liverpool suddenly come into the equation.
Newcastle were mentioned today but I don’t think they have the money for an 18-year-old, and Chelsea had a bid rejected in the summer, but I don’t think he’d be their priority, nor do I think they’d have £30m for an 18-year-old.”
The Spurs Web’s opinion underscores how Tottenham’s strategic financial decisions are now proving advantageous, enabling the club to outmuscle competitors like Newcastle and Chelsea in the pursuit of talent.
