Swapping Spurs Bryan Gil to £12M player will make sense
Financial Fair Play continues to wield its influence in the Premier League, leading clubs to seek innovative solutions.
Loans accompanied by obligations to buy are becoming increasingly common, while swap deals serve as another avenue to navigate FFP regulations.
Tottenham Hotspur recently orchestrated a swap deal involving Radu Dragusin and Djed Spence at Genoa, albeit on a temporary basis. Now, another potential swap deal looms on the horizon.
Recent links between Sevilla’s Loic Bade and Tottenham have sparked discussions. Alasdair Gold, on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, suggested the possibility of a swap deal involving Bryan Gil, considering Sevilla’s longstanding interest in the player.
“When I saw the Loic Bade stuff, I immediately thought ‘oh does that mean that Bryan Gil can go there and they sort something out?’ I do worry for Bryan Gil in terms of gametime, with Werner coming in on his more favoured time as well, that gametime will dry up as well,” Gold mentioned.
Gold shared his verdict on the £12m man and a swap for Gil.
This swap deal could be mutually beneficial for all parties involved, despite the rarity of such arrangements in football.
With Timo Werner’s arrival, Gil’s prospects at Spurs have dwindled. While additional cash might be required to sweeten the deal, Bade’s arrival could provide the North London club with the reinforcement they seek.
The viability of this potential swap deal hinges on the agreement between both clubs. If negotiations for Bade gain traction, the notion of Gil returning to Spain could surface as discussions progress.
