Spurs keen on signing £41m Bentancur upgrade who possesses “something really special”

The Lilywhites’ midfield might be considerably more threatening next season given their outstanding aptitude.

For Tottenham Hotspur this season, it was one of mixed fortunes. They seemed like one of the top clubs in the Premier League for the first 10 games or so, but finally ended just outside the Champions League spots.

Although Daniel Levy and Co will need to properly support Ange Postecoglou over the next months if they wish to see him take the team further in 2024/25, it would be fair to say that Ange Postecoglou has enjoyed a successful first year in North London given their pre-season expectations and injury problems throughout the campaign.

The good news for supporters is that, despite the most recent name suggested for a migration to N17 might cause problems for Rodrigo Bentancur, based on recent sources, that could happen.

News about Tottenham Hotspur transfers

Based on a recent Italian analysis, Tottenham might make a bid for Inter Milan’s gifted midfielder Davide Frattesi in the “coming weeks,” as the team shows great interest in the player.

That offer would consist of a €30m – £26m cash component as well as the offer of full-back Emerson Royal, which, based on the report, would make the whole trade worth about €48m or £41m.

Although the Lilywhites will have to deal with other interested parties, including Roma and Atlético Madrid, which might complicate matters, the concept of bringing in a new midfielder for a fair price and finally getting rid of Royal seems like a great business decision.

Although the Nerazzurri are not keen to sell, this appears like a scenario well worth investigating in the next weeks; should they get their man, Bentancur’s future chances in N17 may suffer.

Comparing Bentancur and Frattesi

Therefore, if Postecoglou were to get his man in the summer, it is unlikely he would come to England just to sit on the bench, and so he would be in direct competition with the club’s other central midfielders and with Papa Matar Sarr displaying so much promise at just 21 years old.

For their respective clubs this season, neither midfielder was particularly outstanding. Due to injuries, the Uruguayan played 1161 minutes of action in 25 games; the Italian spent 1555 minutes for Inter in 42 primarily substitute appearances.

Though he only played 394 minutes more than the Spurs ace, the Rome-born great was far more productive, scoring eight goals and dishing seven assists than just one goal and one assist.

From centre midfield, the 24-year-old averaged a goal involvement per 103 minutes; the former Juventus player could only average a goal involvement every 580 minutes.

Examining the pair’s underlying data reveals that the comparison is also one-sided. Although the Lilywhites ace comes out ahead for progressive passes, shot-creating actions, and passing accuracy, all per 90 he ranks second best in most other pertinent measures.

It’s difficult to argue with writer Wayne Girard’s conclusion that Frattesi has “something really special” about him, however, given his outstanding raw production and underlying figures.
