Sheringham tells Spurs to sign £60m Gallagher alternative Ange would love

Tottenham Hotspur legend Teddy Sheringham has offered his insights on Spurs’ summer transfer strategy, recommending that the club prioritize signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace over Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

In an exclusive interview with FootballFanCast, Sheringham emphasized that Eze’s playing style would be a better fit for manager Ange Postecoglou’s system.

After securing Timo Werner on a loan deal for another season, Spurs are looking to make further attacking additions to their squad.

Originally joining on a temporary basis, Werner’s stay has been extended, with an option to make the move permanent for £8.5 million next summer.

This strategic move by chairman Daniel Levy has set the stage for additional signings aimed at bolstering Tottenham’s attacking options.

Despite managing well without their club-record goalscorer Harry Kane, Spurs are keen on strengthening their forward lineup. With Son Heung-min’s contract nearing its end and Richarlison linked to a potential move to Saudi Arabia, Tottenham needs to prepare for possible changes in their attacking roster.

Eberechi Eze has emerged as a top target for Spurs. The Crystal Palace attacking midfielder had an impressive season, contributing 11 goals and six assists across all competitions.

His performances earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024. Sheringham believes Eze’s ability to unlock defenses aligns perfectly with Postecoglou’s tactical approach.

“I like Eze – probably more so than Gallagher,” Sheringham told FootballFanCast. “The more players that you have who can open up a defense, especially given the way Ange Postecoglou wants to play, the better.

He likes players who can get on the ball and open up a defense, so I would probably say Eze, although I like Conor Gallagher as well. Gallagher is different to Eze, a bit more workmanlike and more of a grafter to make things happen, but I’d be happy for him to go to Tottenham as well.”

Eze’s skill set would complement Postecoglou’s high-pressing, attacking system. His ability to create scoring opportunities and his knack for finding the back of the net would add a new dimension to Tottenham’s midfield. His statistics from last season, averaging a goal every 208 minutes, highlight his effectiveness in the final third.

Fellow pundit Alan Hutton has also backed the potential signing, suggesting that Levy might not hesitate to pay the £60 million price tag for Eze.

This investment could prove crucial in maintaining Tottenham’s competitiveness in the Premier League and their aspirations for Champions League qualification.

Signing Eberechi Eze would be a strategic move for Tottenham Hotspur as they aim to build on their progress and compete at the highest levels. With endorsements from club legends like Sheringham and impressive statistics backing his potential, Eze stands out as a promising addition who could significantly enhance Spurs’ midfield capabilities.

As Tottenham navigates the transfer market this summer, prioritizing Eze could be the key to achieving their ambitious goals for the upcoming season.
