“I was told” – Journalist shares update on Tottenham making late bid for Conor Gallagher

Tottenham Hotspur’s potential signing of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher hinges on the club’s ability to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the remaining days of the 2024 winter transfer window, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Crook suggests that there are indications Hojbjerg may remain at Hotspur Way, complicating the pursuit of Gallagher.

Ange Postecolou, the head coach of Spurs, has already strengthened the squad significantly in the current transfer market.

Despite a positive 2023/24 Premier League campaign, the club is eyeing one more addition to the midfield before the winter window’s closure on February 1.

Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher is extending into the final days of the transfer window. Postecoglou is reportedly seeking an energetic midfielder who can run at defenses and provide an alternative to James Maddison.

Gallagher, a regular at Chelsea, fits the desired profile. With 18 months left on his contract, Chelsea may consider negotiating his sale if a new deal isn’t agreed upon.

Chelsea is reportedly open to negotiations for Gallagher at the right price, possibly reaching £50 million. However, any potential deal is complicated by his significant role in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, occasionally captaining the team.

The success of a move for Gallagher may be linked to the sale of Hojbjerg. The 28-year-old midfielder could be sold for £20 million, as he seeks regular game time elsewhere.

However, Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany reported that Hojbjerg is still open to a move, with Juventus expressing interest.

Crook suggests that a Tottenham move for Gallagher might only happen if Hojbjerg is sold this winter. With Chelsea reportedly setting a £50 million price tag on Gallagher, completing the deal presents a challenge.

Crook emphasizes that Chelsea’s asking price, coupled with Hojbjerg’s potential stay, complicates the situation.

Tottenham, having already welcomed RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner and Genoa center-back Radu Dragusin this month, could potentially make further additions before the transfer window closes.

Upcoming fixtures for Tottenham include a Premier League clash against Brentford on January 31, where they aim to close the gap on fourth-placed Aston Villa. Following that, they face Everton at Goodison Park on February 3, looking to replicate their 2-1 victory from the reverse fixture in December 2023.
