‘Much better players’ – Sam Allardyce calls for £40m Spurs star to be axed this summer
Sam Allardyce has said that James Maddison would not be included to England’s final 26-man squad for the next European Championship.
Of the 33 players nominated to Gareth Southgate’s preliminary team for the European Championship, only Maddison represents Tottenham.
By June 7, the England manager will have submitted a 26-man roster to UEFA after taking a closer look at a few players and deciding whether or not to cut seven players.
Maddison is just one of several English players who will be understandably anxious about not making Southgate’s tough choice on who to leave out of the squad for Germany.
The 27-year-old has been out of sorts recently, failing to make an impression in games after making a February comeback from an injury layoff.
With players like Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden ahead of him in the pecking order, the offensive midfielder seems to have little chance of playing for the Three Lions at this summer’s event.
In Allardyce’s opinion, the Spurs star hasn’t done nearly enough to be included for the final 26-man roster.

When asked about Maddison, the ex-England manager responded with a “no” on No Tippy Tappy Football. There are already much superior players on the team, and he has a fitness issue.
Has a history of frequent injuries (both last year and this year). I suppose one of the factors you consider is the importance of players who will maintain a healthy level of fitness.

It would take Southgate to leave Madison out of the team, in my opinion. You might say the 27-year-old isn’t good enough to be in the team right now, but the England manager would be happy to have him on the bench because he brings something unique to the table that the other players in his position don’t.
