Romero out For Weeks As Tottenham Face Though Matches Ahead

Cristian Romero, a center defender for Tottenham, might be out for up to five weeks due to a hamstring issue, according to manager Ange Postecoglou.

Additionally out due to injuries are defenders Micky van de Ven and Ryan Sessegnon, while full-back Destiny Udogie is banned for Thursday’s game against Brighton.

Postecoglou said, “[It’s] disappointing to lose [Romero], for sure.”

According to a scan he received the other day, he has a hamstring injury. We anticipate having him for four or five weeks.”

Romero, the World Cup champion, was sent off in Tottenham’s 4-1 home loss to Chelsea, and as a result, he missed three games in November and December due to suspension.

After losing to West Ham in his comeback game and managing only one point during the center-half’s absence, they had won their last three games.

With one more game played than leaders Liverpool, Spurs sit six points behind in the Premier League.

“We obviously missed him with the suspension and now we’ve just got him back and he steadied things up,” Postecoglou said.

“Now he will be missing again for quite a chunk of time.”

Romero and Dutch defender Van de Ven had developed a strong relationship before to Van de Ven’s hamstring injury against Chelsea in November.

Although Postecoglou thinks Van de Ven is “getting closer” to rejoining the first team, the 22-year-old center defender won’t be ready for the Premier League encounter on January 14 against Manchester United, in his opinion.

“He is definitely at the end of it,” Postecoglou said. “At some point, middle of January, he could be available, but how we use him after such a long absence will be depending on where he is at.”
