Postecoglou will regret Tottenham decision as outstanding player shines on loan

Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, seems to have the option of using defender Joe Rodon, who is now on loan.

Spurs are now lacking in defensive alternatives due to Micky van de Ven’s long-term injury.

Postecoglou has been forced to use left-back Ben Davies as a temporary center-back with Cristian Romero, who seems to be one tackle away from a punishment, since Eric Dier is obviously not in his plans.

The Wales international Davies has done a good job of replacing Van de Ven, but Postecoglou would have benefited from having additional choices available. As it is, Postecoglou may now regret selling Davies’ international partner in the summer.

Joe Rodon was given permission to leave Hotspur Way on loan, spending the 2023–2024 season with Championship team Leeds United. Given his recent play, Postecoglou probably reconsidered his decision to approve the 26-year-old’s departure.

The performances of Rodon at the back have been a major factor in Leeds’ current play-off standings, where they are in fourth place in the Championship with a nine-point lead over Hull City in seventh.

This season, Rodon has started 20 of the Whites’ 24 league games. On December 23, he stood out especially in their 4-0 thumping of the high-flying Ipswich Town.

After being promoted from League One last year, Kieran Mckenna’s team has surprised many this season in England’s second tier. However, Daniel Farke’s team defeated them handily at Elland Road, with Rodon’s performance being hailed as “outstanding” throughout the game.

On December 23, former Ipswich striker Alex Mathie said to BBC Sport, “Today hasn’t been Ipswich’s day.” For Leeds, Joe Rodon has been excellent at the back. He seems to be a defender in the Premier League.

It is difficult to argue with Mathie.

Rodon won 100% of his duels, two in the air and one on the ground, and he also made five clearances, four interceptions, and one tackle, according to Sofascore. Postecoglou will be quite disappointed with his on-ball performance, however, as the former Swansea player completed 91% of his passes and sent one precise long ball forward.

Although Rodon took a lot of the responsibility for Leeds’ defeat in their most recent game, a 2-1 loss to Preston North End on December 26, the team did not play well.

In addition to winning all four of his ground battles, the center defender made four clearances, one tackle, one interception, and one shot block. He also played three precise long balls forward, finished 86% of his passes, and won three of his five aerial duels.

With the number of suspensions and injuries mounting at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Postecoglou probably had a lot of remorse and a clenched fist when he watched Rodon’s efforts throughout the holiday season.
