Will suits us: Postecoglou to change role of underperforming Tottenham ace
Richarlison, the striker for Tottenham, has faced challenges since his move to the London club, struggling to meet the anticipated performance levels.
Last season, the former Everton player managed only one goal in the league. This term, he’s netted five times in league matches, but there’s still room for improvement.
The Brazilian is eager to shine and prove himself after a slow start.
Since coming to North London, he’s played as both a winger and a striker. Manager Ange Postecoglou now plans to use him more centrally, especially when Son Heung-min heads to the Asian Cup.
Son has been doing great as the main striker, so Richarlison was put on the sides. But now, Postecoglou sees a chance for Richarlison to take over the central spot with Son away.
Postecoglou mentioned, “We had Richarlison out wide due to some early struggles, but now it makes sense for him to be in the middle while Sonny covers the left. But Richarlison might also play on the wing; he did great there at Everton.”
Postecoglou highlighted the adaptability of his forward players, including Sonny, Kulusevski, Johnson, and Richarlison, who have showcased versatility across various positions.
Currently, Richarlison’s role as the number nine seems effective for the team, yet there’s potential for positional changes as per the team’s needs.
Richarlison’s previous experience as a center-forward during his Everton tenure raises curiosity about his ability to shine in a similar role at Tottenham.
Although not known for high goal-scoring rates, his adeptness in the final third, technical prowess, and adept movement offer promise.
Anticipation initially surrounded Richarlison stepping up to fill Harry Kane’s void. As fans hope for the best, a change in Richarlison’s role might just unlock his full potential and contribute more significantly to the team’s success at Tottenham.
