Postecoglou must now drop Woeful Spurs star who had fewer touches than Vicario

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham continued their impressive run with a 2-1 victory over Ferencváros, marking their fifth consecutive win across all competitions.

The week had already been a standout for Spurs, following their dominant 3-0 win over Manchester United, and the momentum carried into Thursday’s Europa League clash.

Dejan Kulusevski orchestrated another strong performance, while Brennan Johnson came off the bench to secure his fifth goal in as many matches.

The Welshman’s transformation since his self-imposed social media break has been nothing short of remarkable.

His growing influence on the team demonstrates his potential as a key player in Tottenham’s future. Despite not starting, his cameo off the bench once again showcased his ability to impact games, as he scored yet again.

The Europa League also provided an opportunity for Tottenham to showcase their rising stars. With the group-stage matches generally considered less demanding, it’s often a chance for English clubs to rotate their squads and give younger talents valuable playing time.

This was the case against Ferencváros, as Postecoglou handed starts to teenagers Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Will Lankshear, and Mikey Moore.

Moore, in particular, stood out, impressing on his full debut. Alasdair Gold of Football.London described the 17-year-old’s performance as “thrilling,” highlighting his potential.

Lankshear, too, put in a hardworking display, completing all 10 of his passes and attempting two shots, despite limited touches on the ball.

Moore, on the other hand, attempted six dribbles and was a constant threat, though his 25 instances of losing possession reflected his risk-taking style of play.

Not all performances were stellar, though, as Timo Werner struggled once again. Despite his undeniable talent and determination, Werner has been in poor form, failing to capitalize on a series of chances, both in this game and during the recent Manchester United match.

His one-on-one miss against Andre Onana last weekend was compounded by another disappointing showing against Ferencváros. Given the level of opposition, the match should have been an opportunity for Werner to rebuild his confidence, but his performance fell short.

Werner’s struggles were evident in his statistics, as he failed to make a significant impact:

Despite his best efforts, Werner couldn’t capitalize on a golden opportunity after being set up by Moore. His poor touch and inability to finish from a tight angle summed up his night, leading to criticism from Football.London, which awarded him a low match rating.

Given his current form, it wouldn’t be surprising if Postecoglou opts to give more playing time to players like Moore in the upcoming fixtures.

Werner’s continued lack of confidence remains a concern, and unless he finds a way to regain his scoring touch, his place in the starting lineup could be under threat.

For Tottenham, however, the emergence of young talents like Moore provides a positive outlook for the future. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how Postecoglou manages both his established stars and the promising players coming through the ranks.
