Postecoglou was really impressed by how £164K/week ace played vs Celtic
Ange Postecoglou didn’t think twice when Tottenham Hotspur had the chance to sign Timo Werner after seeing him play against his old team, Celtic.
This is what Football.London said about how open Tottenham head coach Postecoglou was to the idea of getting the former Chelsea forward to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Well, Tottenham Hotspur bought Timo Werner from RB Leipzig earlier this month. The German forward, who makes £164,000 a week (SalarySport), is on loan to the North London club until the end of the season.
Werner has already played his first game for Tottenham, who can make his loan deal official in the summer of 2024 if they want to. The 27-year-old played well against Manchester United and impressed Ange Postecoglou, the head coach of Spurs.
Football.London now says that Postecoglou didn’t think twice when Spurs’ technical director, Johan Lange, pushed for Werner to be signed.
According to the story, Postecoglou “agreed that he would fit into his system well after seeing firsthand how the 27-year-old had caused all sorts of problems for his Celtic team against RB Leipzig.”
Away from home, RB Leipzig beat Celtic 3-1 in the UEFA Champions League on October 5, 2022. Werner began the game for the German team.
The next week, Leipzig beat Celtic 2-0 at Celtic Park. Werner made a goal in the 75th minute.
My Take: Spurs made a risk-free move to sign Timo Werner
I think that Tottenham Hotspur made a “no-risk” move by signing Timo Werner. Because he is only on loan, the former Chelsea forward could be sent back to RB Leipzig at the end of the season if he doesn’t make a big difference at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the next few weeks and months.
I don’t think Werner should play as the centre striker. He doesn’t score a lot of goals and misses chances. The German works best when used in a broad sense.
Spurs are very close to finishing in the top four in the Premier League. They might even be in the running for the title this season.
