Ange Postecoglou has provided an explanation regarding Heung-Min Son’s absence from the squad for today’s match against Manchester United.

Son, who appeared to be in discomfort before being substituted during Thursday night’s Europa League game against Qarabag, was initially a doubt for the trip to Old Trafford.

While there had been some hope that he might recover in time, it was confirmed earlier that the forward would not be part of today’s squad.

Son’s injury, which forced him off in the 3-0 win over Qarabag, has not improved sufficiently for him to participate in today’s match.

According to Postecoglou, the quick turnaround between the Europa League fixture and today’s Premier League clash left little time for recovery, resulting in the decision to rest the captain.

“It’s a short turnaround from Thursday night, and he just wasn’t right for today, so we go without him,” Postecoglou stated ahead of the game. His comments highlight the challenging schedule the team faces, particularly when key players are affected by injury.

When asked whether Son’s absence would impact the team’s performance, Postecoglou acknowledged that it was indeed a blow but emphasized the need to adapt to such situations.

He pointed out that missing key players has been a recurring issue during his tenure, and the team must learn to cope without them.

While Son’s absence is undoubtedly significant, Postecoglou remains confident in the squad’s ability to step up in his absence.

He mentioned that Timo, who will take Son’s place, is well-suited for the role and was brought into the club specifically for moments like this. Timo will now have the opportunity to showcase his abilities in a key match.

Despite the setback of losing their captain for the game, Tottenham must find a way to maintain their momentum and secure a positive result against a strong Manchester United side.

Postecoglou’s approach reflects a pragmatic attitude, as he continues to navigate the challenges of managing injuries while keeping the squad competitive on multiple fronts.
