After long talk: All parties expect Spurs to agree a new contract with star player now
Reliable Tottenham source Paul O’Keefe has exclusively told The Spurs Web that all sides are optimistic that the club will agree on a new contract with captain Heung-min Son.
Tottenham and Son are allegedly equally comfortable about the situation, and there is no need to finalize a deal in the next weeks or months.
However, O’Keefe has indicated that both sides will likely meet again in the summer to discuss a potential new deal, as Tottenham want to secure their star player.
He exclusively informed The Spurs Web that all sides are fairly calm about Son’s new deal and anticipate to achieve an agreement. There is no particular urgency to complete the transaction, and it will be reviewed again in the summer.”
Tottenham and Heung-min Son are both seeking a new contract
According to Football Insider, Tottenham were prepared to give Son a lucrative new contract in December 2023, and the South Korean was eager to commit to the club for the long term.
Son is now under contract in North London until 2025, but his contract includes a provision that allows Spurs to extend his stay by an additional year, which Tottenham is likely to exercise.
Despite being 31 years old, it seems Tottenham want to retain Sonny in N17 until his mid-thirties, with Football Insider reporting that any new deal would involve a hefty wage increase to reflect Son’s significance as captain.
In Our View
Signing Sonny to a new contract is as crucial off the field as it is on it. It would be a signal that Tottenham’s captain and leader is totally committed to the new project under Ange Postecoglou, providing as a solid basis on which to grow and recruit new players.
